My dog flips right out whenever I try to clip his nails, mostly because of early traumatization by certain members of my family trying to be "helpful".
Is it wrong to want to drug him with beer before trimming his nails? I fear that otherwise it will be impossible, as he gets very, very anxious and can run much faster than me. And he's smart. Raccoon smart.

If it doesn't harm the dog, then I suppose, but I would get it done at a veterinary place by a professional. If you cut the quick (the blood vessel in the nail), it's harmful to the dog.

Take him to a professional if yopu want it done so bad, they can handle him. Also are you giving him good bear, or cheap crap.

Oh, I'm aware of cutting the nail too short and its consequences, and I have been to a vet.
Its a little expensive for something that many dog owners are able to do themselves.
Even the vet had a little trouble with my dog. Not that the doggy got violent or anything, but he is very strong for such a small guy, and almost got away more than once.

edit: I should add, I've raised dogs before, so this whole struggle to desensitize my dog to nail cutting thing is kind of weird.
