When was the last time your computer got a virus that you almost couldn't get rid of, then you fixed somehow? What was it? How did you do it?

For me, a couple of weeks ago I encountered BRATSK.exe, and it took 2 hours of internet trawling to find out how to kill it. Scared the shit out of me.

Something that got into my browers and would redirect all my searches to something called 'clearask'. It wouldn't even let me go to anti-malware sites and was completely invisible when I went looking for in my PC.

Got rid of it by using Malwarebytes which I had to download with someone elses machine and move over via a keydrive.

The worst problem I've ever had was forgetting to disconnect from the network after reformatting but before installing SP1. Blaster worm! Simple fix though.

Well, I remember getting something bad on my computer a while back, I don't remember how it happened, but I wasn't able to fix it and it wiped out everything.

There was a lot of shit on there that I had to reinstall.

A lot of shit.

I actually decided to reinstall my OS yesterday.. took me a whopping ... what, 30 minutes? Dump image over the drive, and done.

I normally don't sport an anti virus suite on my PC because I don't visit "nasty" sites and I don't click "Yes" on everything. Though yesterday, svchost was basically hijacked by a nasty little virus... I seriously did not expect someone to infect a 7.2GB iso file with a virus, upload it at the cost of his own bandwith and distribute it. Well, you got me there buddy. Shame I actually create backups, eh.

Anyway, just to be sure, McAfee is running permanently now.

Funny, very same symptons. Would have saved me a bit of time if I knew that. :p

I managed to find a hidden trojan in a downloaded song from Limewire. I'm glad I had the forethought to put all DLs into a folder and scan them before anything else.

I am virus free 99.9% of the time. No problems here.

Just waiting for that obligatory Vista joke.

I used Malwarebytes too, fixed it easy. Even Trend Micro didn't work.

FREEWARE FTW!
