DISCLAIMER: I have never played final fantasy VII. My knowledge of the game and its characters is limited to what I have picked up online.

I am currently studying Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" and something came to my attention. The play features a character named Strato. Strato is one of Brutus' servants and is unique in that he always carries a large sword with him. In Shakespeare's time, a "strato" was a young boy who worked in the theatre company. Stratos would play the female roles because of their higher voices. In order to keep their high voices, stratos were castrated (think [ca]stratos). If by some chance you are by some chance a weather scientist, you may know that there are a type of cloud called stratus clouds A.K.A. fog. From what I know about cloud(which isn't a heck of a lot) I am told that he is a bit of whiner who can't get over Aerith's death even though Tifa is right there in front of him, and interested. He also has a high voice if I am not mistaken.

Let's see:
Big sword
Won't man up
Stratus=Cloud
Stratos were castrated

Well? Is it possible that Cloud Strife was neutered?

Actually, Cloud has a normaly-sounding male voice, if not, Advent Children lied to me. The guy does man-up, mans-down, and up again. Plus, there's no reason whatsoever to even assume he was castrated--the assumption has nothing to do with any of the traits you posted, also.

But it is quite possible that he was derived from Strato, if only for mere aesthetic reasons.

Well compared to other noted whiney bag FF lead chars like Zidane, Tidus, Vaan, and the lord god of Emoid bullshit, Squall, Cloud is like Duke Nukem.

Granted he does whine and complain but as history has now shown is, it CAN be a lot worse.

As for the theory of being neutered... its possible, because well, he really doesnt seem to care. The real question is it genuine ambivilence, or just borderline obsessive disorder.

But as a protagonist, he basically gets his head straight and does what he needs to do, so he in effect does man up, just takes the long way around about doing it.

So No, While I can respect the attempt I would be inclined to disagree with the notion.

And Squall was not emo. Just UBER careless. I'm not gonna go into that topic of comparing who's emo or not and why...but yes. If anything, he's a borderline douchebag, but not emo.
Vaan, on the other hand, reminds me of a younger version of Cloud for many reasons. Just sayin'.

Sure. Never played Final Fantasy VII, but when I see Cloud and his sword I think, "Yeah that lady-boy is insanely strong."

I will conceed, Zidane definitely has some good points, but trust me when I tell you he is far beyond being without flaw. Besides being a pervert is not always a trait that comes off well or enjoyable, Hell just look at Lupin the 3rd.

However I understand what your trying to say, but personally comparing it with Balthier is not doing much to sell me on the notion.

His voice didn't sound all that high to me, at least in Advent Children it didn't. And he had quit a deep voice in Dissidia, now that I think of it. So I don't know where you're getting any of this from.

Zidane is the best male lead in a Final Fantasy so far, when he is revelaed the truth about himself he doesn't go all emo he basically says so? and carries on. He also acts like he enjoys the company of his friends. Squall acting like a complete jerk to his friends when they threw a concert for him was absolutely awful. I'm a woman and I don't think he's a pervert he just acts like he wants to apprieciate Garnet unlike all the others who are totally self absorbed and woe is me. He was a breath of fresh air.

As for Cloud it's possible he's based on that character but I doubt he's castrated lol. That would just be odd.

Readin' too much into that Japanese symbolism there, fella. Just because everyone's sporting Beiber doesn't mean you have to think like that now.

I will say this time and time again until somebody proves me wrong:

Cloud was castrated AFTER the original VII, specifically, in Advent Children. Cloud was never a whiny ***** in the original game. He picks himself up right after Aeris' death and seeks revenge. Yes, he feels guilty, but he doesn't ***** nearly as much as the movie would make you believe.

Also, he DOES end up with Tifa, it is made perfectly clear in the game.

So, I don't think he was originally mapped to Stratos. Maybe it's a coincidence right now but, dude, way to extrapolate!

Fail.

I could just as well question the masculinity of Julius Ceaser because he didn't have a boy-lover/衆道(shudō). [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shudo#Military_same-sex_love]

As some others have pointed out before me, Cloud isn't a whining emo in FFVII. He's portrayed as more of a quiet, businesslike killing machine. He only starts to question the meanings of things after Staff-chick-du'jour winds up impaled and out of phoenix down range... even then, he seems more curious than sad. As for Advent Children... I'd say most of his emo whining comes from the self-doubt he rediscovered after he remembered who he was (not exactly the killing machine that he became through necessity) and then wound up with a debilitating disease.

Still, the big sword and the name are pretty valid parallels... and it's not like Roman eunuchs were renowned for whining... they were more renowned for emotionlessness and dutifulness. So I guess it's not beyond the realm of possibility... except for the whole part about Tifa being rather head-over-heels for him. But who knows, maybe she's not into phallic things.

Excalibur
Excalibur
a thousand times: Excalibur.
How can you say that English culture has no effect on a J-RPG when that same J-RPG features the ability to summon the Knights of the Round Table and King Arthur himself. And what is he armed with? Excalibur. A legendary English sword. I'm not positive that Cloud was castrated or that Caesar was entirely straight (he probably wasn't. Roman culture didn't view homosexuality the way we do today).

I'm sorry. All I can do is restate that I have not played FF anything. Or seen Advent Children. I think I picked up the Tifa thing in an Overthinker video.

*sigh*

If there's really one irksome thing with random people on the internet, it's creating these strawmen to beat off to so they feel like they said something smart or even something of value.

Please quote EXACTLY where I said "English culture has no effect on a J-RPG."

As can clearly see, you not only are you constructing a strawman fallacy, you also fail at reading comprehension.

If you're seriously considering the possibility that Cloud was castrated as suggested by the OP, and not some brazen, class-less attack on his masculinity, then it's pretty clear you don't have a clue as what is going on here.
