From the large monies of J.J. Abrams comes a romantic adventure of- Waaaiiittt a second...I came to watch a monster movie!
The story for me is essentially a hump. Starts slow with the character introductions, and comes to quite the high point of action and I when they were blasting the monster with the missile racks it was pretty sweet.
After that point it was a downhill of confusing events which lead to very disappointing love stuff with predictable deaths around every corner. A lot of things were left to be unanswered which was just one of many things that bothered me. The plot just gets weaker and weaker and the actors, while good in some places, I believe start to really seem unrealistic at this point.
Though not all of it was bad. As a film maker myself I enjoy watching movies for the cinematography that goes through the making of a film. I thought the "handheld" style was unique(which really shows the YouTube generation of information sharing) but it only worked well at certain points in the movie. One thing for sure though was that the special effects were right on target I guess the thing that really killed it for me was the seemingly meaningless romantic plot line which killed the whole monster movie feeling I had going into it.
tl;dr- Save your $11.95(Well that's for Canadians)
All in all though, I felt it was just a bad experience for me. It did not really make me think like most movies though and I sat through the very annoying and over the top credits music that fits less than the credits at the end of V for Vendetta. (For those who watched them...You know what I am talking about.)
