Why would they let you into patient rooms that had patients in them so you could expose them? Seems like they'd be shuffling patients around to keep get them out of the way.
Are you telling me, with a straight face here, that they don't just let the IT guy hang around with all the patients that have a highly infectious disease?

What kind of Mickey Mouse Hospitals do we have in this country?!?!

Really? Check the thumbnail graph.
I believe I saw the mental health thing from this article or something very similar that someone posted on the old v1 forums. It may not be the #1 reason, but it's a major reason and definitely more dangerous to millennials than covid. People are all in an uproar about covid but something like drinking tons of sugar or HFCS isn't limited at all when it kills far more than covid ever could. It's been well over ten years since I drank anything with sugar in it regularly because I know sugar is basically poison. I only drink a big bottle of tea once a week that I use as a water jug for the rest of the week.

Also, if you treat covid properly with common sense practices like Japan, suicide deaths will outnumber covid deaths.

There are zero established treatments for "early" covid-19. Research is ongoing.
There's plenty of things we know work for early covid treatment. By the way "work" doesn't mean "cure", it means it lowers the chances of needing hospitalized care whether it may be 5% or 40% or whatever. Here's all the data. Are 164 peer reviewed studies not enough? Also, all these treatments have basically no downsides and do no harm.

My local hospital is full.
I'm telling you what hospitals are like in my area, which is basically as populous an area that isn't a major city as it's the suburbs of Chicago and considered part of the Chicago-land area. And, I was working at the Lafayette hospital (a college town so more covid) a couple months back and it was basically like it is here. I'm not sure if they're cancelling surgeries (though I do know you can't have covid and have surgery obviously), but none of surgery departments have been repurposed for covid patients. The surgery wards are mainly empty whether it's PACU or ENDO, really easy to install hardware to them.

Why would they let you into patient rooms that had patients in them so you could expose them? Seems like they'd be shuffling patients around to keep get them out of the way.
We're allowed to go into any rooms that aren't covid rooms, we do check with the nurses 1st and ask which rooms we can get into, but we're totally allowed to go into rooms with patients.

Not just America. There's a lot of countries that have a lot to answer for.
Covid-19 will be the bloody wound that will haunt America for decades.
I like how nobody is mad at China for literally making this fucking thing. Everywhere you look it's people's fault for trying to live their life, or it's Trump's fault, or it's whatever politician's fault.

Nobody points anything at China. Why? Because they fund most of the media either directly or indirectly, so nobody can say shit to them. Everything on TV is fucking bullshit.

So here's a story, I live in California and supposedly our hospitals are fucked beyond belief right now. Well last wekk my 85 year old grandfather had to go to the hospital for non-covid emergency. The emergency department took him in right away because the hospital was almost empty. Plenty of room in the ICU, in the middle of a major city, no ambulances going crazy, the staff was nice, friendly, and relaxed.

Then three days later he had to go back to the hospital because the issue he was having came back. Same thing. No COVId panicked staff or packed rooms, just a normally functioning hospital. And my state is supposed so crazy with covid cases that someone is dying every 3 minutes from it.

Then this week, the California government has changed it's tune. Going from "we will be in lockdown for the foreseeable future" To... "If we don't open the state, then there wont be a state to open up to." So now counties are started to relax mandates again, outdoor dining, parks, beaches, all that shit.

Look I'm not saying that Covid isn't a serious thing, but I think the media has done nothing but exaggerate and tell half-truths about the disease from the fucking get go. Top that off with our government being absolutely worthless in the one time we need them to not be worthless. I mean....government is mostly useless anyway, but I don't think it's unreasonable for them to step up once in a while. Fucking hell.

Fuck China.

Now by "making this fucking thing" I'm going to be charitable and assume you mean the situation because they're cover up of the early days led to this.

With that out of the way criticising China and criticising my own government aren't mutually exclusive. Whether or not China is responsible for the rampant spread of corona virus is irrelevant to whether or not other countries responded appropriately.

I mean they literally made this in a lab in Wuhan. Or at least modified an existing Novelcorona virus. But i mean yeah, either way they completely fucked this up and it blew into a global disaster, both in life and in economic ways.

Unless you think China purposefully released it (not just possibly came from a lab via accident), then there's not TOO MUCH to get mad at them for. No matter where a virus like this came from if it started in a major city or got there before being identified (which happened), then it's going to be able to spread faster than we can contain it. Look how widespread it was in the US alone before we did a single thing, 20% of NYC was infected in April already. The virus was obviously in the US at least as early as February. Sure, China wanted to make themselves look as good as possible, but really everyone knew what was up in January at the latest.

The media has been ridiculous with the fear mongering with regards to covid, I bet if you ask like 100 people on the street about the basic facts about covid, they couldn't tell you (whether its infection fatality rate, whether it's safe outside or from surface contacts) and probably everyone has seen hours of news coverage of it. California closing outdoor dining is ridiculous, you can do anything outside with no masks and be perfectly safe, outside is the one place you can be as social as you want and not get infected. There's been so many articles about mutated strains or how they detected covid on vacated cruise ships weeks laster or how immunity is likely only 3 months, all it is either meaningless information or just straight up bullshit. The 2 things that are thought to be very important are Vitamin D and masks and guess what population wore masks from the very 1st day and has naturally good levels of Vitamin D? Japan. And they have less than 5,000 deaths and never lockdowned and their schools have been open for a long time already (schools not being open is another dumb thing we've done).

Is mental health actually worse in our generation than last, or is it merely better diagnosed?

Japan is simply an example of effective infection control, which our countries utterly screwed up. The relationship to suicides is utterly meaningless. Fail to control a sufficiently dangerous disease, obviously it kills more than suicide.

No. Not least because the vast majority of them are shit studies.

And that website you are citing is providing a supposed analysis that is so poor it amounts to pseudoscience. It makes statements which are plainly lies. That website is actually fucking infuriating. Who are the creators? They say:

"Who is @CovidAnalysis?
We are PhD researchers, scientists, people who hope to make a contribution, even if it is only very minor. You can find our research in journals like Science and Nature. For examples of why we can't be more specific search for "raoult death threats" or "simone gold fired". "

That's an excuse to hide who they really are. They are a misinformation campaign. That shit they're pulling makes my blood boil.

Bringing up suicide rates in this case is also weird for a different reason.
While i can believe Japan is doing pretty well dealing with the disease(or infectious diseases in general), i believe it's also known from its abysmal suicide numbers, from way before the pandemic.

Regardless mental health is a far more serious health issue than covid.

Japan didn't do anything fancy or expensive, they just used basic common sense practices, which any other country can replicate for basically no money. They didn't even do a single lockdown.

If you actually look at the studies, you'd see the positive studies have P values well below 0.05 while the negative studies have P values above 0.05. Thus, the negative studies are the shit studies. I bet you can't even find one negative HCQ study that was for early treatment with a P value of 0.05 or lower (all of them are for late treatment). There's studies on, for example, HCQ that showed it worked on SARS-COV-1. How are they lying? They show you the studies with the most important numbers you need to know whether they are good studies or not. You can dismiss the couple sentence blurbs if you want and just look at the numbers.

I was just pointing out that it's pretty easy to control the pandemic if you want to so much so that suicides will outnumber covid deaths. And Japan's suicide rate is not much higher than the US according to this.

I mean that's more likely because the narrative has constantly changed with what the virus was and still to this day keeps changing. So it is hard to separate fact from fiction when the news outlets purposefully make things as bad as possible.

What I do know is that other states aren't shutdown and they don't have it nearly as bad as the news says California have it. I went to Tennessee for business and everything was open. Wear a mask when possible, but open. And that state still doesn't have it the way California has it.

I suppose you could argue population as a key factor, but even in the major cities like Nashville and Memphis, it isn't the way it is in Cali. Why is that? Personally i think it's the mentality of the polictians who have a boner for the power that they have over people and businesses. Gov. Newsom likes to talk a lot of shit about how we need to shutdown and wear our masks and whatnot, but that ************ never shutdown his winery, he never stopped gathering with groups of people, and he got caught multiple times not wearing a mask in these same crowds. So what's his angle? Abusing his power most likely IMO. Put rules upon everyone else, but don't follow them himself. And yet everyone else who gets caught without a mask gets fucking obliterated on social media for it.

Not to mention Newson also has given an exception to Hollywood to continue to film movies and television at will with no restrictions of where they operate and how. Which is funny, because how in the fuck is making a new piece of shit Tom Cruise movie "essential". There even was a big story about a restaurant owner who was forced to shutdown her "safe" outdoor dining, but in her same parking lot a film crew was also to set up the catering for the entire crew and outdoor dine.

And with things like this happening all over the place, you wonder why there are so many people who think Covid is bullshit or (like me) think it's heavily overblown.

There are reports and stories of whistleblowers in hospitals where patients died and because the insurances and government were blindly paying out huge for covid, the hospital would lie and list covid as a cause of death. My Uncle's best friend was killed early summer last year in a motorcycle accident and his death report said covid on it, and his family is suing the hospital right now for a wrongful death report....or something like that. They suing that's all I know.

You believe these politicians want to be shutting businesses, and thus cutting off their own primary source of revenue?

I mean it's not their primary source of revenue. It's their states'. The politicians will get paid either way.

Don't get me wrong. Ireland reduced restrictions right before Christmas to end up worst in the world with cases per million by January so I am very much pro-lockdown, obviously supports need to be in place. If anything the main threat to politicians would be in the cushy lobbying and consulting jobs they like to line up once their out of office but even that's not really a risk, the companies offering those positions aren't the ones being hurt.

As for them wanting to shut down businesses? I can't really think of any compelling reason why. I tend to assume the worst of career politicians but even I have a hard time believing the lockdowns are because the feeling of control gives them a big ol' woody like they can only get from child porn and cannibalism.

If anything the real issue around mismanagement of lockdowns is probably just because the people doing it aren't affected and really don't give a shit. They

I would argue it probably is worse for the generation below us (I think you and I are of similar age?) because they're going to reap even more of the ladder-pulling-up that's happened with every successive generation, while simultaneously being criticised for being unable to climb an invisible ladder that is in fact a very greasy pole.

A big issue here is college expenses. Obviously it's nowhere near as bad as the States but it's still bad and rent costs make going to college out of town a fucking nightmare. When I was in college my rent was 320 a month and that was considered high. Now you'd be lucky to spend less than 800-900. Also when I was in college pretty much everyone had their fees paid by the state and there was financial aid for most people. I got 6k a year and it's not like my family was dirt poor or anything.

Now people my age are calling students complaining about rising costs entitled.

This is one of the things that frustrates me about the discourse on lockdown. I'm pro-lockdown. It doesn't mean I want there to be a lockdown it means I think there needs to be a lockdown because of other events. I do not want my leg in plaster, but if I break my leg, I will probably want my leg in plaster. I do not want to receive universal credit, but if I lose my job I will probably want to receive universal credit (even though it's shit).

Yep. I left uni with ~12K of debt (I didn't work in term time, only over the holidays), and mine and my girlfriend's rent was £160 for a big three-bed maisonette over a shop (was a fucking hole though -- living there has always made me feel grateful to have a nice home now). My sister left uni last year with about £50K debt. Like ... she's not going to be able to pay that.

Sorry my friend, but you've been had.

That website is con job: a trap for the general public filled with fake, inaccurate analysis. I wrote a very long explanation for why their data analysis is wrong, that they are lying to you, but one of those Escapist website browser code error things crashed it. I will reconstruct it in parts across a number of posts, because I think you need to have it explained.

I cannot stress enough how much I disapprove of the quotation from the above. It is superficially plausible and tugs on the heart strings to say they fear death threats, but actually, if you really love science you put your name on it, because that's ethical transparency and a really big deal. It's a major warning sign that they would put this infomration out to public information and not say who they are. It's also combined with a casual claim you can read their articles in "Science" and "Nature", not uncoincidentally the world's two most pretigious academic science journals. This is to claim authority, but very emptily given they will not reveal who they are. That stinks a bit.

They claim innocence and helpfulness, but there's a catch. They say all their analysis is available to see, and all the source papers listed . But they all know that people lacking appropriate professional knowledge could not criticise their analysis or usefully make sense of the source papers. That too is really a trick: it's offering themselves open to criticism they know most readers cannot do.
