I just had a thought in my head, what would others think of about a co-op story mode game? And not just linking to the interent and playing with anyone at any random level, by instead one where you must have the same partner throughout the game, and when one quits, the game is saved and ended. It would have problems if people play with random others, but if your partner is an/a e-friend/friend of yours, you could have dates and times/the ability to keep in contact with him. The story would play as though real time, so both players would have the same experience at the same time from however distance they are apart (I wouldn't recommend to laggy players w/ nonlaggy ones.)

Just a thought that ran through my head and landed onto the screen here :)

Of course in an online game like this there would be a nonrelevant multi-player mode just for killing each other with more people.

ADDITION: Co-dependancy would cause a problem, so it should be an option.

Though I can imagine some parts where the characters split up.

It not good that is the other players leaves the game stopes since if is do to a bad connection it could be at a very important, part. But I do like the ideal but it will need a lot of tinking and tuning if it is going to work.

co-dependancy like this wouldn't function on a major game.
You'd need a solo story mode.
Though gears of war handles this pretty well, it doesnt make the 2nd player feel like an extra.
But again it is also one player.

So a game where either is optional?

That's a stupid idea. If a game forces you to play co-op, then it automatically swoops into "poop" territory.

I like co-op much more the way it is.

You could do it. You'd just have to make sure it was with a friend you could trust not to give up. Xbox Live-type matches for it wouldn't work well.

People have been playing Dungeons & Dragon matches that hinge on this sort of co-op play for decades. If you structured the online setup right, there's no reason it couldn't work.
