Just wondering what everyone prefers, I've noticed that recently there just aren't enough Co-op games out. Most are just shooters where a second player can jump in feeling like an unwanted visitor (Exception of L4D). Is that down to lazy developers or do people really hate Cooperative games that much?

Presumably that's why he got suspended.
Edit: He's not anymore. Good for him.

Yeah, I really like co-op play. I think it ought to be done more, for instance in Fallout 3 - now that would have been awesome.
The problem is, developers don't want to spend the money and time it would take to make their AI smart enough to deal with players who are actually cooperating - flanking, covering fire, and what have you.
There are two workarounds for this.
1. Make the waves of enemies so huge that you need two people just to take them all out before they kill you - I call this the Gears of War approach.
2. Make some enemies that simply cannot be killed or who will insta-kill you unless you have a teammate that can shoot them to save you or draw their 'attention' - the L4D and Army of Two approach.

See, when developers manage to build an AI that is capable of making a 2-on-2 matchup between bots and humans challenging without giving the AI ridiculous advantages like the ability to one-shot you without looking at you, THEN we'll see a lot more co-op games. But probably not until then.

Simple misunderstanding, he made an error. Give the new (well, sort of?) guy a break. He apologized for it as well.

Anyway, on topic: I'm pretty much solo/coop. I definitely prefer coop, as I love to share my gaming experience with someone else. "Did you see how COOL that was?!" .. and such things. Being able to support each other and not having to deal with AI. There are plenty of games I wish had coop..... sigh. Damn you, Stalker. On the other hand, 2008 seemed to have been the year of coop, and even the new Total War game will feature an online campaign (= coop!).

Otherwise, it's solo for me. I can't stand PvP. I hate it. Hate hate. Hate. I don't like competition. I'd much rather cooperate.

Slight misunderstanding on that. It's fixed now.

Well I'm guessing it's because most FPS games nowadays are more focused on online versus play than diverse co-op. Even with online co-op available it wouldn't be 'fair' to make the two different characters do very different things because then people get into arguments about who does what.
Of course not giving co-op any diversity makes every player look different but still feel the same.

Split screen seems to be dying, eh? Been going on for a while. GTA4, as I understand, has long range coop but no split screen. Maybe its because publishers would rather you buy two copies of the game to play together, rather than sit next to eachother.

But your question is flawed... everyone has different opinions, and 5 bucks says many people supporting each option come to post in the thread.

I really like Co-Op games. I dont think that Devs are lazy though. I mean the gamne still has to be balanced so two people can play with there still being a moderate amount of challenge.Alot of times devs will also have to include extra parts of levels so that two players have enough space and not feel cramped.

(I'm suprised I'm not suspended now to be honest, thanks mod ^^)
I play a lot of older games, due to lack of funding etc, yet I've noticed that co-op games are a dying breed, where it is introduced it's a major selling point. How many people love RE5 due to the cooperative aspect? FPS's are the only real co-op games around now, and I think it's a shame. The last co-op non shooting game I saw was Shrek 2 for the PS2 (is it bad that I played that?) and it worked well for what it was. I'd just like to see a bit more friendly action in games rather then promoting tearing each others throats out.

co-op all the way! resident evil 5 is goina be eral damn neat as long as they dont force you to split up every 5 fucking seconds. whats the point of coop if they're goina run off on their own anyway? left4dead is downright the best coop ATM.

I'm usually a single-player guy, but for the most part I prefer co-op if I do multiplayer. The exceptions would be SSBB, Left4Dead (I just LOVE that vs mode =D) and sometimes Halo.

Problem, though. Last year, my friend and I had a "Day of Halo" where we played through the trilogy in co-op mode. Half the time, we messed up and started killing each other. It was hilarious fun, but our "Day of Halo" lasted about three days. Still, fun times...

D) All of the above

Mostly it depends on the game and my mood - but all are fun

Co-op is my favorite, but I like solo as well, since a lot of my friends don't like a lot of the games that I do.

I prefer Co-op gaming. I mean when you're playing with a couple of friends, isn't it more enjoyable than when you play on your own?
Or team competitive, such as team deathmatch games.

I like to play all of them, Left 4 Dead (co-op), Team Fortress 2(competitive), and any of my single player games for the obvious single player, there's no real favorite I just alternate between them when I feel like playing a certain game.
