So the WaW demo has been available to the public for a while now, what are people's thoughts?

There's been a lot of discussion about Treyarch doing this year's CoD, which they seem to have responded to by basically putting CoD4's awesomazing multiplayer in a WW2 setting, and expanding it slightly. The upside of doing this is that it does feel tight and balanced, even with tanks thrown in. The downside of this is that it feels like I'm playing CoD4 with new maps, and I'm not sure if that's an experience worth 60 buckaroos. I'm still curious about some of the things not included in the demo, like flamethrowers and the co-op mode, but once again, not sure if that's worth buying a game for. We'll see.

Your thoughts?

It's basically CoD4 except with all the stupid stuff removed.

And the singleplayer campaign/zombie thing looks cool, so I'll most likely buy it.

Personally, the one thing for me that justified the WW2 setting was always the Russian campaign since that amazing level from CoD.
So I really hope they don't cock it up.
Although, I never really cared for the British one. The whole point of the first CoD was the squad mates and getting rid of them was a pretty stupid idea.

All the stupid stuff removed? More like they put more stupid stuff in. Dogs? Really? The guns are also modeled oddly, the Thompson has a different barrel compared to what was actually used in WWII and it just looks dirty. The graphics just dont seem right. It looks like CoD4...but the ugly red-headed step child of CoD4

Well, its the beta, its supposed to look bad or else it'd be massive to download. I actually prefer the dogs to the helicopter, they're actually effective, while being beatable at the same time.

Yeah, thats all well and good, but I still feel as if its trying to be somethings its not. You don't get that feeling? It just feels odd having my character in WWII swinging his knife around rather then rifle butting someone. I'm sure it will be a good game, but it is certaintly not the next must buy game this year.

Nope, its gonna look exactly the same in the final release. Betas, especially public ones are basically the full retail game at about 98% completion. They aren't gonna be fixing the graphics or anything like that before the game comes out. Just fixing stuff like being able to crawl under the map.

Also, its back in WW2 again. So it sucks. I don't know about the rest of you, but isn't anybody else really f***ing tired of killing nazis? It's practically a copy and paste job of COD4 too, but since its back in WW2 its just a COD4 mod that makes the game worse.

I'm buying it for the zombie mode, but you know what strikes me as weird?

How Treyarch is replacing the Radar/Air Strike/Helicopter system.

"Private, how is the fight going?"

"Bad, sir. The radar has failed to provide us with the locations of enemy units, and our artillery strikes have been unable to cause any casualities."

"That's it. Our secret weapon."

"Sir, you couldn't possibly..."

"Yes, I am private. Send in... the Dogs!"

Seriously, dogs replacing the helicopter?

There's something up with that.

Actually, the dogs work pretty well if you ask me. They're annoying, but avoidable. Plus they hand out points when you kill them, which is a nice move.

I'm actually quite happy with how they implemented the dogs. Unlike the helicopter, it's quite easy to take out a dog that's coming after you by yourself, so it makes it a lot more fair.
Granted, it's still free kills just by pushing a button and only carries on COD4's tradition of low skill deathmatch, but at least it's an improvement.

COD4 needs a promode something fierce.

I can't stand the maps. In CoD4 people will fight between buildings and other spots. One of the best examples is Bloc, were most of the fighting is between the two buildings. In CoD5 this isn't there, it seems like the best way to get kills is to run around, constantly on the move, going from hut to hut. This type of gameplay is good in games like Halo, but here it just doesn't work. Most of the time I walk out into a doorway and get shot, or try and run from hut to hut and get shot. That isn't fun. If you works as a team or a pair then this isn't too bad but it's hard to find people to work together.

You can camp as well but that isn't very fun. It gets boring after a while.

CoD4 had a mixture of camping/run and gun/team gameplay that worked really well. This isn't in CoD4. There is no mixture in this game.

I like what they did with Create a Class, IW could learn a lot from this and make number 6 a lot better. I love the way snipers work, where you have to unlock the scope. I think that is great.

And the dogs are good. Unlike helicopters they can't be taken out in a few seconds and you usually get kills from them but you are also able to defend yourself.

I cancelled my pre-order of CoD:WW after playing the beta. I knew Treyarch were bad but I atleast thought they would be able to reskin CoD4 without messing it up. They haven't. The weapons are incredibly unbalenced, and since I look to the CoD series for competitive multiplayer, the game just doesn't appeal to me; I don't care for the singleplayer and if I want coop gameplay I would get Left 4 Dead. If a PAM/Promod comes out for CoD:WW and fixes it then I might get it, but not if it changes too much. The main appeal of competitive mods like Pam and Promod are that they don't totally change the game, they just tweak it to a competitive level. If CoD:WW gets a decent competitive mod it will turn out almost a different game.

Be fair, its a Beta. One of the main reasons for Beta's is for rebalancing of weapons and so forth before it goes gold.

I have to agree with this, the open spaces don't feel right at all. I think it definitely puts people who favor SMG's and shotguns at a disadvantage, because there's simply less cover to go behind.
