That's why I don't like cats
Dogs are far more better :)

I'm convinced that only people who like cats are the ones infected with Toxoplasma gondii (google it!)

Any adequate person would kick cat for behaving like a little spoiled brat and acting like it's master is actually it's servant

Some of these stats do make sense. It's not -that- uncommon for wild, large cats to perform surplus kills; I think it's a matter of keeping their hunting skills sharp. Domestic cats being their descendants, like dogs descending from wolves, have a natural inclination to hunt if they're hungry. So sure if they catch a field mouse or a pigeon they're gonna eat it. I certainly didn't know to expect male cats to be more adventurous than females, though younger cats being more curious just stands to reason; less experience gives them a desire to learn more.

cats dont bring dead animals back as trophies. its stage 1 of teaching little kittens how to hunt. the cat isnt just going on a murdering spree its saying you are so inept you cant even catch your own food
This logic falls apart when the same cats come running when they hear a food dish being filled.

They just like to savor the kill, it's just that simple. Not really any different than people who mount heads.
its not merely about food its the fact you possess zero hunting skills according to the cat. come on people eat that dead bird like the kitty cat is saying and then you can move on to the good stuff like stalking and wiggling your bum when you see a bird out of reach
So where is exactly does the cat think you get the food for its bowl? The fact that you feed the cat more than it "feeds" you, destroys your argument.

Er...what. This is an actual article? Really? I'm not sure how USA Today could consider strapping a video recorder to a cat's collar newsworthy...

Don't get me wrong, I love my cats, but really?
Why not? The Escapist community (and the geek community in general, now that I think about it) loves animals and tends to have a lot of cats. We figured you guys could totally relate and/or would find this interesting, so we decided to share the info.

I'm pretty sure my ginger cat Pumpkin has another owner he came in sparkling clean at one point like someone had bathed him.

My cats kill and unfortunate amount of creatures but we can't seem to get a bell collar that stays on.

My sisters cat Vinnie is huge and his face is covered in scars I dread to think what he gets up too.
Vinnie probably has met my friend's cat Sebastien. Sebastien is this cute little grey thing that stopped everyone in the neighbourhood from letting their cats (and dogs) out unattended. This cat demolished a dog that got loose from his backyard. Stupid pooch only had one and a half ears left after the scrap. That's what it gets for starting shit with a cat.

I love Sebastien.

Being a part of a family that routinely had visiting cats from neighbors wander into our house, stay for an hour or two, then leave again, I'm kind of amused that people didn't know cats do this. A lot.
Indeed. We once held a tally, and ended up with that the rascal was being fed by at least four people on a regular basis.

Your hypothesis falls apart when you realize that cat lovers don't have cysts in their hippocampus (fear part of brain). All those mice that Toxoplaxma gondii infect have cysts in that part of the brain, and an affinity for the smell of cats.

'Course, I don't know if your kidding or not.

I mean, you're just relaying news to us. I just found it strange that USA Today figured the "discovery of attaching a camcorder a cat's collar!" to be newsworthy.

Hah I already do that!

Along with 'snarking' at pigeons outside the window alongside my cat :p

Maybe they like cats, too. :)

But back on topic! Sorry for being snappy in one of those posts earlier. Wildlife and the such is something quite close to my heart and I tend to forget my manners and go into full super saiyan mode lol. But I think our difference of opinion comes from our differing views on harm and the human presence--not something we will be able to debate much as my world view is rooted in my spiritualism.

But I will say my statement in regard to the human impact on Earth was wrong. Better to say we do more harm than good and a lot less good than we could. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Whether it's worth debating is always dependent on how much of an open mind one has.

Anyway, your last statement is obviously true but it is important for us as a species to remember why. It's important to remember that we are, in the long term, pretty damn puny and not much special. It's important to remember that we're just another species, that we don't play some sort of custodian role and that in the end, when it comes to the planet and life itself;
Why do I say such a callous thing? Because in the end, the Earth and life on it just is. It exists and that's that.

It's exactly all that melo-dramatic "Save the earth!" rhetoric that actually harms us. Not everyone takes that message seriously because it is in fact silly. What we should realize is; holy shit, we're actually killing ourselves in the long run and there's no one but us who actually gives a damn about that. As soon as that enters our collective minds we'll start making big changes to ensure our prosperity.

And if we don't then yeah, our shitty treatment of our environment will come back to bite us in the ass while we drag some other critters with us.
saving the earth means very little when the universe at large and your own planet occasionally exterminates 90% of all life on the planet, goes through massive temperature swings covering the planet in miles of ice. we are in a window now for a mass extinction event of some sort, several averages are either on the button or past due.

far as things go i got no sympathy for species that over specialize panda and kowola i am looking at you evolutionary dead ends, both locked into a single food source that any decent planetary change and they would die out.

yea while we are here we might not want to go destroying our own environment, but it will happen at some point no matter what we do or dont do.

Cameras mounted to cats' collars? But...that's exactly the kind of idea that I had just a few days ago!
Okay sure, I get that I'm absolutely not the only one who would think of something like this, but I'm pretty sure that something similar like this has happened before and that's almost giving me the weird feeling that the entire world is reading my mind or something.

But it's not like I'm paranoid enough to actually believe that, I mean it's just another one of my odd speculations that I occasionally have that can't possibly be true.

I wish people wouldn't let their cats outside. I love both my cats, but felines are a destructive creature that preys on native wildlife in areas they are foreign to.
Welcome to nature, shockingly enough animals kill ... even in areas they aren't foreign to. Punishing a cat by keeping it in doors for doing what a cat does is very harsh!

I would suggest you stop imposing your morals on a cat, it just mean to keep cats locked up.
