'Collecting' Games

So I'm in the mood for what seems to be a very specific type of game, I'm looking for something like Pokemon, Digimon or Gotcha Force where you collect a lot of one thing then battle with them or merge them, those kind of game mechanics.

Can anyone recommend me anything?
Anyone know any games like this?
Or even a better genre name than 'collecting'?

Dragon Warrior Monsters springs instantly to mind. You can probably find Dragon Warrior Monsters: Joker in the bargain bin most places.

Most Shin Megami Tensei games, one of the Persona games or Nocture (lucifer's call - if your in europe)

I wish the xbox had a collecting game, I love them quite dearly. It's a great way to waste a large amount of time.

Yeah, you might enjoy Dragon Quest Monsters Joker. Dragon Quest Hand of the Heavenly Bride allows you to recruit monsters too.

If you have a PS2, you can collect and fuse personas in Persona 3 and Persona 4, and recruit and fuse demons in Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.

In Rhapsody A Musical Adventure (not a bad game, very easy though), you can recruit puppets to fight with.

I am tempted to ask if you're just pulling this guy's leg, these titles sound like a poor joke. I'm afraid of the answer, though.
