Collector Games

So earlier today I was making a few purchases on Amazon.com earlier today and came across this.

I think the pricing is a little crazy but it got me thinking. What will be considered a collectable game in the future. I'm not really sure what, if anything will be considered collectable but I've been buying boxed sets lately and squirreling them away. For example I recently acquired the new Batman game with the Batarang in the box. Things like that are unusual and may have collector value down the road. I also have an unopened copy of FF7 (it's the rerelease with the green stripe but it's still the original game).

So I ask, what do you, fellow escapists think about this? What will be worth something in the future? (if anything)

I have a copy of Einhander, though it's just the disc; if I had the case and manual, it would be worth a fortune.

I also have Chrono Trigger for the SNES, but again, it's just the cartridge. The cart alone is worth about $50, though.

Like the OP, I have a Greatest Hits FFVII, and it's in great condition with manual. I also have the strategy guide from 1997, but that's just for sentimental value.

Let's see... I have Ico, which is getting harder to find but not necessarily collectible. I also have the first two Fatal Frame games, both of which still sell for close to their original retail value at GameStop. I'm looking to pick up the third one, but it's pretty uncommon.

My brother used to own Gitaroo Man. Stone-cold classic, and worth quite a bit. It got 'loaned' to a friend, and we never got it back. Son of a *****.

It's hard to tell. If it becomes considered a true classic and becomes a part of society's greater collective consciousness, then it'll surely accrue value.
I'd hafta say that anything involving batman certainly falls into that category.

Final Fantasy? Shoot, look at some of the EBay prices for SNES cartridges not even two-decades old yet...

Alice is already worth quite a pretty penny.[footnote]Original box, jewel case, and instruction book. I bought this for $5 not more than 8 years ago.[/footnote] And for good reason: The Cheshire Cat is the single greatest animal in any video game ever.


I'm sure I have a few others that I'm forgetting, but they escape me for now.

Heh, yea I know right with the Final Fantasy carts. Several years ago I needed some hard cash so I traded in my carts that day. They hold their value pretty good (I did eventually purchase them back but regretfully I lost all my save files and don't have the desire to get to those levels again.)

Hmmmm, interesting topic.

I can relate to hard to find things. Do you know how hard it is to find Season 3 of Digimon on DVD?

Anyway, I think that Super Mario Galaxy could become a collectible item, once the Wii runs it's lifespan.

Yeah them old games can be worth a fortune, the most valuable one that I have whose value is known to me is a copy of Alien VS. Predator for the SNES it's worth about $30.

Wait, Gitaroo Man is a rarity? I'll be sure to hold on to that, then...

I don't think it's necessarily more valuable than most other games, but it's certainly less common due to how few were sold in North America and due to how frickin' weird it is. I STILL think it's the best music game system ever made that doesn't steal Bemani mechanics.

wow....that was the creepiest yet coolest thing i have seen today.
i remember seeing an ad for this game a while back and just the pictures for it were extremely creepy...now i really want to play it.

OT:Im not sure what i have that collectible.
the oldest games i have are Legend of Zelda:Links Awakening, some SNES games, and Dragon Warrior:Monsters.

Ill haft to look them up and see how rare and valuable they are, though i doubt ill part with any of them, too much sentimental value.

Any game that doesn't have many copies is automatically worth a fortune. Look at ET for the Atari. It doesn't matter on the quality, as long as it's rare. So, I would imagine Sonic '06 since I believe that most people burned their copies as soon as they started playing.

You know what sucks is I used to have that too. That game was really hard. I think I beat it or came close once. I know someone who has Chrono Trigger for Snes and other person with Ms. Packman.

Why Sonic 06? I don't know much about that one.
