I only have one special edition out of all my games, and that is Halo Wars.

I'm pathetic.

But if I did have that Legendary Edition helmet, I probably could wear it. Just...cut the extra on the bottom.

Anyways, nice article.

Hate to disappoint you but the batarang is not actually throwable... yeah.
You think some plastic stand is going to prevent people from whipping that thing at each others' noggins? Can I come live in your pleasant lil' world for a while?
I don't know about anyone else but... If I wanted to chuck some thing at you to cause you harm some plastic nick-nack that I spent at least $100 dollars for, would be the last thing I would think to throw at you.

While we are on the subject, anything can be a weapon. I could throw the game's case at you,the Master Chief helmet at you or any other blunt and/or pointy object.
So chill...besides if your going to pay that much to get a collectible your not going to try to break it.

For me it depends on what comes in it, how much is it and how much am I a fan of the game. So far the only collectors edition's I've bought have been the one for Resident Evil 5. And I've got to say I'm happy with my purchase

The reason you spent $130 for it is because you just had to.

I've never ever bought this kind of thing.
except the spyro one.
But there was good reason behind that one.

The only collectors edition i have is for Spore. It's actually a decent one as well, only costing me about the same price as is it was for the orig game. I think thats the way you have to make a collectors edition. No gimmicks, maybe an art book a making of and an extended manual for like £5- £10 extra.

I agree with the view of this article, I was all for buying the special edition of Batman, and then I had a reality moment slap my mind from it's dream state, it's a chuffing piece of metal shaped into the batarang, it will have all the durability and wieldabilty like the Blade sword I have at home (balance is crap, and sounds like the blade will fly off if you go to fast through a form).

If I can buy a special limited edition box set of the Matrix, or Hell boy with statue bust included for $70 each (each DVD of the Matrix was $20 on it's own, and there is seven in the special edition case...that works out to be $120 worth of DVD's), then I should be able to get a $50 game with something thrown in for an extra $10-20, not the outrageous figure the publishers are asking for, sometimes they are generous with their free gifts, and like most of them now, they are being greedy, and at the same time trying to get potential customers attention by throwing in something of interest.

Maybe it's because I'm older (or there isn't any new star wars stuff with free goodies thrown in), but I'm tired of the free crap that doesn't work, wasn't what you expected, or turned out to be a useless piece of crap....and it's no longer a freebie thrown in with the game, it's now the other way around, free game with your purchase of utter shite and sparkly uselessness (unless you count doorstop and shelf prop/device to stuff under table leg to balance out wobble as useful?).

Yup, those WoW fans really love their in-game pets that many won't have.

Oh and the NV goggles look nice too! I can't wait to go outside at night and get some extra exercise.

All you want from a 'special' edition is to feel special, am i right???

I creamed my pants when I saw the gold Septim coin you got with the Oblivion SE. It's like the ones you steal in the game!!!!

F$ck the art book, f%ck the soundtrack, That coin made the special edition for me.

The best CE ever was Call of Duty World at War! It came with a canteen you couldn't even use and broke if you tried.

Oh, and your clan tag was golden, yippie.

The only collectors editions I've ever purchased were the ones for Guild Wars: Factions and Nightfall, which were definitely in the "not a waste of money" category of collectors editions: You got a nifty artbook, pins, desk calendars, posters and such, which are all pretty standard additions really - but they also included extra music by the awesome Jeremy Soule (which when unlocked would play in-game), and some exclusive emotes and items that were cool without giving you an advantage over the non-collector's edition owners.

I honestly would have paid extra for the music alone, so all the other bits were an added bonus for me.

The batarang is on a stand (as people have said), but is made of cheap plastic. Like, the kind beach toys are made of.

It actually insults the game by being so crappy.
