Fantasy occurring during the period between the 15th and 18th centuries. I may just be new to the time period, but there seems to be a lack of fantasy stories set during this time. Most are in medieval Europe, or the fantasy world equivalent.

Any suggestions or recommendations of a fantasy novel or series occurring during this time frame?

Why not become an author and make that kind of stuff up! Then you can become one of the most copied people and/or groups in the world. Like Nintendo, Steve Jobs, and others.

Would Pirates of the Caribbean count?
I suppose that would count. It's a big anachronism stew, but it does feature prominent supernatural and mythological aspects.

Hmmm...

Blazing Saddles?

Think about it a sec.
Blazing Saddles is closer on the scale to Steampunk Fantasy, but I get your meaning. The Wild West has its own subgenre of fantasy.

The closest I can think of off the top of my head is the Temeraire series. It's set in the early 19th century, and rather than a full fantasy world it simply has dragons in it.

If you just want alternatives to medieval fantasy, I could also suggest Brandon Sanderson's Alloy of Law, which has an Old West feel to it. It's technically a sequel to his Mistborn trilogy, but it should work as a standalone novel if you're ok with not getting the occasional references to the other books.

Based in those *actual* centuries or just based on that time period? Because I think the Fable games would count as Colonial Fantasy. Haven't played them though.

STEAMPUNK?!

How the- Where in the name of Mel Brooks does that count as steampunk?!
I don't know, bad wording on my part. The Wild West just seems to be post colonial, and it lends itself much better to industrial fantasy.

As an opinion, I would not call any western to be steampunk unless the machinery involved is not somehow contemporary. For instance, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. involves numerous advances beyond the norm that were not present at the time. That and the Orbs and the timey-wimeyness of the show make it your steampunk fantasy.

On the other hand, Blazing Saddles is Mel Brooks' hilarious mock-western largely set in the idea of the old west (while breaking the fourth wall a few times) that did not use anything ahead of its time...except for comedic purposes.

Or hell, a REAL steampunk western fantasy would be Wild Wild West.

Or Damnation, or Darkwatch: Curse of the West. I'm just saying that Cowboys have their own fantasy, and it isn't colonial.
