Sooooo, yeah. I know it might be too much to ask, but it'd be awesome if game companies stopped using green= friendly, red= enemy as reference in games. There are a LOT of people who are colour blind, and this selection of colours makes some games too damn hard to play, harder than there's any reason to be.

Some games have started to adress this. I noticed MW3 has a "colour blind" option, though I have no clue what it does.

Have you, if colour blind, ever felt hampered by this in gaming?

I heard there were some Starcraft players who had to stop playing because they couldn't tell where the nuke dot was. It's because red is such a noticable colour.

Well I kinda have the opposite problem, I'm not color blind yet most modern games insist on being for color blind people only... could you add some color for the rest of us?

I see what you did there.

It is dumb. Take Starhawk for example. During the beta I kept shooting at my own teammates because the red and green are the same. Why not use red an blue? MUCH higher contrast.

Not gonna disagree with you that color blind gamers are a minority, but I think it's a MUCH larger percentage of gamers than you seem to think it is.

Anyway... back on topic.

No, Iwata... it really isn't too much to ask. All that a color blind option really translates to is a palette swap, which could easily be optional and not have any affect on the enjoyment of the game by people like xSKULLY here. My evidence? Look at pretty much any game out there with a color blind option ("option" being the key word there).

8% of men .5% of women, a much larger amount of men than i thought but a much smaller amount of women (although gaming is male dominated)
Those percentages aren't entirely accurate, seeing as how there really isn't a consensus on the subject due in part to the very large number of people who have more mild and subtle cases of color blindness and go un-diagnosed. Additionally, color blindness isn't necessarily something that has to be genetic. I went to university with a young woman who became color blind in her teens after getting small fragments of glass in her eyes from a shattered bottle. In the United States it's commonly believed that roughly 10% of the male population has some form of difficulty distinguishing colors. While still a minority, that's still a very large segment of the population (larger than quite a few of the racial minorities).

Luckily my colour-blindness isnt as bad, so i can still see them on their own.

Mix green and red together though? Forget about it.

Im not color blind. If anything, my doctor thinks im crazy because i can see to many colors!
I mean, everyone seems to think there are only seven colors on the rainbow! You all must be color blind if you dont see Gortshemch. Its such a wonderful color. So hard to find paint in the right shade though ):

What does everyone have against it?

I don't think they should ditch Red and Green because there associated with good and bad as you said, but all games like this should have a Colour blind mode for people like yourself.

i think it makes sense for enemy's to be red and enemy's to be green and that changing it for the very small minority that is colour blind gamers seams to be wrong.
The colour scheme doesn't necessarily have to be changed, colour blind people are usually used to using other cues to tell the difference. How about just making friendlies and enemies more visually different. E.G. Different outlines.

I really don't think they should ditch red and green. However, if it's just the color of HP bars, the silhouettes of enemies and allies and stuff like that, you might as well throw in a color blind mode.

I know that LoL has an option that makes the teams blue and yellow instead(I think it was yellow at least).

It changes friendlies to blue and enemies to orange.

Yes AAA games should have the option, but I don't think it should be something all games have to abide by.
