So recently I've started to notice that more and more, when I watch commercials, sure they were always annoying, but now I don't even get what they're expecting to happen as a result of seeing their product.

I just got done watching a commercial for Twizzlers in which a man went into his shop and built a robot out of Twizzlers. That's it... that's the commercial. Um... I'm not going to use Twizzlers for that... you can't eat them after that assumedly... are they admitting their product taste terrible but, ya know, "hey, you can still use it for other things"?

Any examples of this from you guys?

The Hare and the Bear in the UK is such an awful advert. It's cheesy, 'artsy' and too nostalgia -targeted, but it doesn't actually advertise anything. In test runs they did of it everyone thought it was for Coca-Cola (It's for John Lewis) and the only indicator in the final advert is the logo right at the end. On top of that it has no real spirit whatsoever.

Pretty much any advertisement for perfume or cars. Still, I'd rather take them over the annoying ones (i.e. insurance and claims).

Commercials these days tend to only annoy and disgust me, spare a small few. It's a waste of effort (or should be) to make pointless shitty commercials like this. I actively avoid products that use these kinds of ads.

Weird ads that I cannot remember what the product they are trying to sell is...what's the point?

I don't often see TV commercials, but when I do, they all seem to have the following properties:

1. They tend not to make much sense to begin with
2. They talk to you like you are a particularly stupid child or a worthlessly shallow adult.

Sometimes they don't even talk about the product. Head-On commercials do this so you'll be curious what the big deal is and look it up. My curiosity was triggered, but I have no interest in playing their little game.

Every time I visit family, someone has the TV on and I find myself cringing at the stupid things being said on it. I try to bring movies so we watch those instead of TV.

There was this ad for a jeans store that just featured a man vacuuming the floor, and there was a weird song playing. The lyrics sounded like somebody doing a bad impression of some Chinese language. I have no idea what that's got to do with jeans. He might have been wearing jeans, I can't recall, but the entire scenario is extremely weird.

Well considering you remembered the ad and the product and went talking about it on the net they sure succeeded at doing one thing which ads are supposed to do, raise product awareness. In marketing there are three steps in advertising: raise awareness, push to consumption, push to fidelity. And in this case they managed to succeed with step 1. And considering that's the main purpose of mass-advertisement (like TV ads) they did what they wanted to.

I think the reason why many ads are becoming weird is because it's the only way to stand out. People are being bombarded with hundreds of ads on a daily basis and it has become a struggle to make the ad people will actually remember.

Actually... I think Twizzlers wasn't actually the product. I've seen the commercial several times now and since nothing about it seemed that interesting, I'm still not interested enough to check if it has any official ties to what I mentioned or even remember the name of what they were advertising specifically was. All I can remember is, it looked dumb, and I couldn't figure out where they were going. I'd kinda call that a net failure in advertising.

Every perfume ad ever. They make no bloody sense. One that really annoys is one where a guy is sitting at what looks like a press conference and just says "I'm not going to be the person I'm expected to be" before walking off. What the hell does that have to do with anything?

Also I hope there is a special place in hell for who ever makes those payday loan adverts. Hopefully all the betting adverts that plague the half time breaks will not be too far behind them.

Soy once did several adverts for the television.

In one of them, they had placed several paint bombs in an abandoned building, and then filmed them all exploding. My sister used to live in one of them, actually.

But yeah, they made no sense.

I think I only watch commercials for one thing and one thing only:

The Music

Then, I look up said music online to see the may comments of how they all got there from watching a commercial...

(Rinse... Repeat... Respond... ["R.I.P" feat. 2Chain...])

Though, I did find this recent Honey Nut Cheerios commercial rubbing me the wrong way... "Must be the honey..." (and those gummi worms ads came out of the mind of nowhere...)
