I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for headsets for long term wearing? I've been doing a lot more game streaming and my current headset is an older Logitech one and after wearing them for even just an hour, I start to get a headache and when removing them, my ears kill.
I should point out that the sound quality doesn't have to be great, but the mic should be good. I only use them for voices/speaking. All my actual game sound comes out of my speakers.

What I use is just a simple mic that stays right beside me, so I can say whatever I want, with not too much background noise. i don't think I can stand using i.

So PC gaming?

That's not my area of expertize. However, I heard Triton was a good brand for any sort of gaming. Of course, they're kinda expensive (Around $100 average). If not, try Turtle Beach. There are a couple who are a bit cheaper compared to Triton ($50) but most people seem to prefer Triton over Turtle Beach.

Using a pair of AstroGaming A40's here (Saints Row 3 purple branded, natch). With the over the ear cups, they stay comfortable and the band isn't as tight as my previous headphones, so there's less pressure on my poor ears and noggin.

I'd suggest using a pair of over-ear headphones, (Sennhiser HD555 are really nice.) and getting a desktop microphone. Rather than a headset which adds more weight and tend to have lower sound quality.

Don't you have a problem with it picking up the background noise from the game?

In the budget zone there's the Creative Fatal1ty (non-USB) headset. I've been thus far sold on them, considering how at times I'll just forget them on my head for hours and hours and only after half a day realize I've not even been listening to anything with them during that time.

Depends what type of microphone you use.

Desktop microphones, you may have some issue, mostly with keyboard sound as the keyboard tends to be between the you and the microphone.

I personally use a Stage microphone on a stand.

Which completely eliminates any background sound and will make you extremely clear and audible, however, you have to be very close to it for it to pick you up.

Alternatively, you can get one of those clip-on microphones, which can attach directly to your shirt or whatever you're wearing.

Obviously, this requires you to be wearing something. Which isn't a downside for most people, but, is not to be ruled out.

Prices on all these range quite a bit.

However, for the clarity and quality, it's generally better value for money than the higher end "Gamer" headsets, or whatever.

I always use my Turtle Beach headset for any of my gaming. Has lots of features, good microphone, great sound. And it's comfortable too.

I really love my Logitech G35 headset and would heartily recommend it.
Good sound, terrible construction strength. Mine snapped right off while I was wearing it! Around 150 other people on the site I bought it from had similar complaints.
I have nothing to add to the discussion. I use Siberia, but they can get uncomfortable after a while, also, not the best sound.

I use a pair of Tritton AX720's.
They're super comfy, the audio clarity is pretty good, and when Skyping with my friends they say my mic is fantastic.
Ofcourse, they are quite pricey ($170 AUD).

Picked up a new headset recently.

Its called Plantronics Audio 355 Headset. It was within my price range and I've been quite pleased with the audio quality. Sure beats my old headset in terms of comfort, I can wear this for hours and not feel it. Also I don't need to keep it together with duct tape.

Really? 0.o I have found mine to be durable as hell, I have droped it, stepped on it, had a cat yank it off my head and out of the computer, ect and it still functions like the day I bought it, perhaps they fixed the problem in later production runs?
Might be. All I know is that a lot of people have complained.

I'd recommend a GameCom 777. The cushioned earpeices and headband make it very easy to wear. It also comes with it's own plantronics noise-cancelling mic so background noise is nonexistant (I live rather close to an international airport and the jet noise NEVER appears on the recordings I make of it!).
Seconded. That's the headset I use and it's really comfortable for long term use with good sound and mic quality.

Though can I have a clarification on your OP? From how I read it you said the sound just comes from the speakers (not headset), and the headset is just used as a mic.

In that case I'd suggest not buying a new headset and instead getting a good stand alone mic. That way no uncomfortable headset (because as comfy as my headset is its always more of a pain than not wearing one at all), and better audio quality for your buck. Though you may have to deal with background noise from your speakers.

On the Mic front I'd suggest a Blue Snowball ICE if you use a desktop (it comes with a stand), or a Snowflake if you use a laptop (it can attach to the monitor like a webcam). Those have really good sound quality for cheaper than a lot of the headsets in this thread.

EDIT: The Blue Tiki is also a good mic for laptops as it has really good noise cancelling. I've not actually used one myself, but they are apparently very good for voice recordings, Skype, etc.

I have an closed ear Platronics Gamecom 367 that I picked up off Amazon for less than £20, tbh I haven't tried the mic yet as I just have it muted. but the reviews said the mic was quiet.

What I can attest to is they are very comfy. I wear them whenever i'm on the PC or with an adaptor my 360, plus laid on my bed where i've fallen asleep with them on and woke up in the morning with no ear ache or sweating.

Maybe you could buy a more expensive model with a better mic or another brand with a similar design

The 777 is an open ear set so even if they use speakers they can still hear it with the headset on (Assuming they plug in only the mic!).
Yeah, but if you're just using headphones for the mic you may as well just buy a mic, and get more value for your money.

I use a MXL studio 1 USB microphone and some earbuds I like.

http://www.mxlmics.com/microphones/usb/Studio1RD/

It's a studio mic so the pickup quality is very good and I can be farther away from it. I also use it very successfully for recording my cello and online banter sessions with my friends.
