So I've been slowly getting into comics over the past year. It started out innocently enough by collecting IDW's Transformers collections (By the way, for any Gen1 Transformers fans, these books are AWESOME). Then there was The Walking Dead, and I slowly migrated out... I picked up the Annhilation series just because it sounded cool (I thought it started strong, then got very "meh"). Then I picked up Planet Hulk which I absolutely love. Then I picked up Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men, which was phenomenal.

Then my wife had to go get me a Nexus 10 for Christmas... which turned into essentially a gateway drug, because I could buy digital comics so easily on it.

Now I'm reading New Avengers, Hellraiser, Planet Hulk, more Transformers, the new TMNT (which is also really cool BTW), and I'm starting to get into the Civil War, and I've got a bunch of "House of M" collections arriving from Amazon. This isn't even counting the handful of stuff I picked up that sounded cool or got great reviews that I didn't know what they were, such as Lady Mechanika and Saga.

God help me. I thought Warhammer 40k was going to bankrupt me, but now it might be comics. Still looking for a DC series to get into... just not that into Batman or Superman or their pantheon of heroes.

Currently DC's best books are it's 'Dark' line. Books like Demon Knights, Frankenstein: Agent of Shade or I, Vampire are a good place to start if you want to avoid the standard superhero books.

I suppose you could give the new Constantine thing a go now that the idiots have cancelled Hellblazer in favour of bringing him back into the DCU. The character is one of DC's absolute best, and Justice League Dark (which he appears in) is supposed to be pretty good as well, so if you want a current series those might be worth a look. Alternatively, get the trade paperbacks of Hellblazer, Swamp Thing and Sandman; it's all great stuff.

Ugh, thanks for reminding me that I only have about a third of Sandman. My poor wallet!
