Who are your favorite and why?

As for recently, I've realised that Mark Millar is pretty twisted, with Red Skull in Ultimate Avengers and some scenes in Kick Ass.

So favourite writers

Warren Ellis - Transmet/Authority
Grant Morrison/Pete Quitely team - We3 and All Star Superman
Gaiman - Sandman
Moore - Everything
Brian Michael Bendis - Powers and USM
Brian K Vaughn - 'Lost' and Ex Machina

Excelsior!

So yeah, Stan Lee (So I'm not creative and don't read many Comics) for Spider Man, X-men, and such (Mixed feelings about his Manga Ultimo though)

Alan Moore. Mainly for Watchmen because i don't know what else he's written.

Thank you kind Sir any others by him
He did a Batman story called "The Killing Joke"
"From Hell" is about Jack the Ripper.
He created Constantine of the Hellblazer series...I don't think he wrote those though.

If you like his work, particularly Watchmen I would suggest Mark Waid's "Kingdom Come" as well.

Enjoy my Snooty, but more so, English, friend.

I don't read comic books, but I always liked Deadpool as a character, so I'll say my favorite is whoever made him the most famous.

His best work (other than the obvious WM) is Promethea.

Check it out.

OT:
Neil Gaiman
Alan Moore
Brian Azzarello
Matt Fraction
Ed Brubaker
Brian K. Vaughn
Bill Willingham
Geoff Johns

etc

Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby. (Yeah, yeah..I'm an old timer).

But what can I say? They knew how to write compelling dialogue and characters.

Don't believe me? Check out Ditko's Blue Beetle (pre-DC) and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Absolute favorite? Probably Neil Gaiman. I can't think of a finer comics series than The Sandman, and Mr Punch and Signal to Noise are both fantastic.

Is it just me, or is that picture less freaky than one of Alan Moore.

OT: Grant Morrison has some really weird shit, but he's best when he has little or no canon that preceded him. As for others, Geoff Johns, Charles Burns, Brian Azzarello and Jaime Hernadez.

Warren Ellis.

The man's ability to sensibly finish anything is highly dubious but Transmetropolitan is a thing of genius from start to nearly-the-finish and the Stormwatch stuff and creation of the Authority is a pretty sweet take on the superhero thing (with the exception of how he finished off Stormwatch... see my point?). It's a shame he didn't continue The Authority, he never really had the chance to take it where he wanted it to go.

Noting the OP, it's significant that Mark Millar took it over.
