There's a number of Deadpool and Cable trade paperbacks but I'm unsure about which ones are good.

I grew up with DC so... all I know is Superman, Starman, and other DC and Vertigo. Apart from a few independent comic books I own.

There should be at your local comic shop a dude who will help you pick and choose your Deadpool needs. Borders are useless in this regard. But hey, you could always consult the Escapist in this. If you want recommendations on good Superman comics I'm your guy - but you don't seem like a Superman guy to me. Superman guys tend to pick far less morally ambiguous comics to read.

I started with the Deadpool Classics, basically a number of individual Deadpool comics bound together. I started with Volume 2 [http://www.amazon.com/Deadpool-Classic-Vol-Joe-Kelly/dp/0785137319] as that's higher rated than Volume 1 [http://www.amazon.com/Deadpool-Classic-Vol-Fabian-Nicieza/dp/0785131248]. Going to buy Volume 3 [http://www.amazon.com/Deadpool-Classic-Vol-Joe-Kelly/dp/0785142444] pretty soon, really enjoying that merc with a mouth.

What's the thing with Superman then anyway? I never read any Superman comics myself, but the concept of Superman sounds rather...outdated. Do explain.

Basically Superman's main appeal is he's the bright and happy guy in an increasingly unhappy DC Universe (and comics industry in general). There was this one I read called Superman: Birthright where in order to teach an arms dealer a lesson for selling guns to kids - he shot one of the guys guns at him and picked the bullet out of the air - just to spook the hell out of him. Damn, Son of Krypton, that's COLD.

But unfortunately there is only about 20 graphic novels worth of Superman that's actually worth reading. Unlike Batman there's only been so many decent stories written about him, including Death and Return of Superman. Start with Birthright first - then try Red Son - then try Death and Return.

If you enjoy comic books, then Watchmen is a definite read.

The Batman comic, The Killing Joke by Alan Moore is also fantastic.

If you're into Star Wars, look for Jango Fett: Open Seasons by Dark Horse comics.

Also, there is the two series I have collected most of:

The Invincible Ironman ( I have issues 1-300)
Earlier Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog (I have issues 1-250)

All of these are good reads. And then there's manga...

In which case:

HELLSING

The outdated and boring thing about Superman is the fact that his main appeal is that he's unbeatable and utterly, completely invincible. He never loses, unless he is exposed to supposedly incredibly rare, almost magical mineral/rock/alloy known as Kryptonite.

The problem with Kryptonite is that it is the 'be-all/end-all' lame plot-hole filler. Because it is so rare and the only way to kill Superman, it seemingly just appears in every would-be thug's back pocket, because after 50+ years, DC realized that a plot without any tension or conflict is BORING.

That one speech at the end of Kill Bill Vol.2 about Superman is damn good though.

I'm not normally big on comics, but I recently started reading Deadpool and I have to say, most of it is pretty awesome.

I was blown away by the the first half of the Deadpool series from the late 90's by Joe Kelly (issues #1-#33)

I started reading the issues that Chris Priest wrote and, in my opinion, it's garbage. He tried to make the series more goofy and funny and he failed horribly.

So my suggestion is to definitely reed issues 1-33 of Deadpool, and perhaps give the Chris Priest stuff a shot (he started at issue 34 and I think he ended at 45) but if you think it sucks, don't say I didn't warn you.

Edit:

I completely forgot about those.

They are definitely "must reads" if you plan on getting into comics.

I would recommend basically all of Cable and Deadpool if you're a fan of either, the two of them seem to be best together.

I also advise finding authors you like, they're often consistent in quality.

I'd recommend Warren Ellis (Next Wave: Agents of Hate, The Authority, Transmetropolitian, Ultimates Galatus Trilogy), Garth Ennis (The Boys, Preacher), Alan Moore (Watchmen, V for Vendetta, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) and Mark Millar (Kickass, Wanted, Ultimates 1 and 2, The Authority). Also would recommend authors such as Neil Gaimon, Grant Morrison and Brian K. Vaughn.

I have read almost all of IGN's top 25 Batman graphic novels, also I have read Watchmen and started the Walking Dead, I read almost all of the Sin City book as well. Never really cared for Superman but was planing on picking up Red Son. I have Mixed feelings about Hellblazer. I like independent stuff like JTHM and Squee. I do read manga but am a little tired of it right now ( only book I care for is Detroit Metal City)

also I'm looking into:
Blade the Vampire Hunter,
Spider-Man,
the X-men

but I don't know where to start

Superman stories are best when Batman is involved. On his own, Superman isn't the most brilliant and interesting character in the world, but stood next to Batman, the contrasts and relationship between them makes some amazing reading. JLA: Tower of Babel being my favourite example.
