Now, I recently got into comics (Don't look at me like that). Frankly, I love them now. Within a year, I had purchased/rented/borrowed/stole countless tradebacks because I don't have the sheer amount of money to order several series's incrementally. Through the cosmic power of the universe I have yet to fathom, I have come to possession full length Comic-Con tickets. I've read the biggest names like Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns, but I want to ask you, comic fans of the Escapist community, what comics should I get (If any) in preparation for this awesome event?

get anything frank miller's done(sin city,300,wolverine)...james o'barr (the crow)....there's a book called "preacher" thats bound to be the next big movie..I was in to marvel and image about 10 years ago, so I haven't kept up with too many newer titles but try some of the smaller companies they make the best product

Yeah, I love Dark Horse and Hellboy, but I know nothing about current comics. I keep hearing about this Blackest Night with Green Lantern, but I think I'm a little late for that.

Since you got into batman, I heartily suggest Batman: Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth. One of the best graphic novels I've ever read. If you do, get the special edition that has all the author's notes in the back, as it reveals tons of the little details you may have missed.

0.o Based on the game, or the other way around?

Edit: Scratch that. Just checked wiki.

:) It's quite good, I suggest you check your library for a copy, or something.

As others said, check out anything by Frank Miller, he's the king of good comics and graphic novels. Since you mentioned Green Lantern, see if you can read the Emerald Dawn series, it's the best Green Lantern I've read, although I'm not an avid comic fan.
