I realise that comics aren't mentioned too frequently on this site, so, with that in mind I decided I'd start a thread to rectify that problem.
I'm not asking what comics/graphic novels/manga you think are the best, I'm asking what comics you love. What books you can return to over and over, what has left a deep impact etc.
Also, I'm not separating manga and comics as, really they're the same medium, simply different cultures, that's the way I see it.

Without further delay I'll get started.
The first I'll mention is Batman The Long Halloween. It was one of the very first Batman books I've read and has stuck with me since. It tells a perfectly scribed tragedy; the origin story of Two-Face an important event which would forever change the Dark Knight.

Next up is Gear a graphic novel by Doug TenNapel. While I'm oft at odds with his religious views, he does some fantastic work. The stylistic art is warm and often heartrending at the same time, the tale itself throws you through a gauntlet of emotion.

Finally I'll end with mentioning Go Nagi's Devilman. A fairly short and often crude manga series, Devilman will stick with you, if you give it a chance. The first volume is rough... But man does it improve. The finale is unlike anything else I've read, a fantastic character piece.
