What's with the C&C: Generals Hate? I sunk more time into that and Zero Hour than I did any of the previous C&C games, and I loved the Red Alert series. (Generals just came at a time when going to a friend's place and having super fun lantimes was viable, because I had my own car).
Same here. When I first heard of Generals I thought it seemed terrible, but once I played it, it quickly became a favourite.

OT: It doesn't bother me in the slightest that they have changed them, it's not that big a deal. What bothers me is why they changed them. I am getting quite sick of this hypocritical stepping on egg shells mentality that is becoming pervasive in gaming. It's not like C+C as a series has ever tried to be serious, in C+C Generals the Chinese make most of their money from cyber-crime for crying out loud.

That said, the changes are pretty minor, so I doubt it will make that much of a difference.

I hope they don't change Jarmen Kell. Seriously that guy is one hell of a sniper. as for more varied generals may be good, as long as they don't take anything out. Hell having a African general for the GLA might be fun or even European one (back story could be them fighting because of economical reasons being imposed on them).

I really love the GLA campaign (and zero hour one), Jarmen Kell and the and the forty thieves was one of my favourite missions.

Honestly, I like this decision for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, the GLA were pretty much every Arab Terrorist Stereotype rolled into one in the Original Generals. It doesn't help them at all considering the original Generals was released shortly before (or during) the War in Iraq. I can very easily see how and why people would be offended by it.

Secondly, it's a dated stereotype anyhow. Various Arab resistance groups also have non-Arabian members in their numbers. Heck, there was a british news report years ago on a British Muslim who went to join the Iraqi resistance fighters.

Third and most importantly, they're the GLA. As in GLOBAL Liberation Army, not the Arab or Middle East Liberation Army. Time they started to live up to that name a little more.
