Though call Edgar Wright made some cult movies and nerd stuff but I think Frakes, despite his lousy 'mystery' excursion, knows better how to handle the Trek.

JJ aBings drove the series to the wall, no end. Anything but him!

First Contact was the best Star Trek movie by far, and you can say what you want about Insurrection but a least it had this:
That said, I'm not sure what to think of this. I kinda want the Old Trek and the new stuff to be..um... separate. Yeah, let's go with that.

It's nice to see that I'm not alone in my love of 'First Contact'. Haven't seen every ST film, but of the ones I've seen, I do count it as my favorite ('Wrath of Khan' being a close second though).

First Contact is, hands down, without a doubt, no-shut-up-about-Khan, my favourite Star Trek movie (although that's in no small part due to Patrick Stewart being just awesome). Wrath of Khan is actually down around 3rd or 4th in my list - I rate Undiscovered Country above it.
I applaud your good taste in all these matters.

As to the prospect of Mr. Frakes directing the third sequel to the reboot: sure, why not? Shit, it's not like he could miss the point of the original series much harder than J.J. Abrams did in conceiving it in the first place, or for that matter, much harder than William Shatner did while directing, um, I forget its title but the movie where they find God. I have more faith in him than in a lot of people.

Bring this Riker to the project.

Cameo maybe? As a long lost ancestor of the Will Riker we all know and love?

Many of the movies and episodes were directed by the actors. Of the films, Leonard Nimoy directed Search for Spock and Voyage Home, William Shatner Directed the space God awful Final Frontier. LeVar Burton (Geordi) in total directed 29 episodes throughout TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT.

thanks

I guess its "a thing that happens" when the actors direct TV shows (since ageis ago I heard the woman who plays Gabrielle directed an episode of Xena) but it still seems odd to me

anyway I think it would be awesome, let him have trek, how bad could it get?

I didn't see the last one, but I'd definitely see this one if Frakes directs it. Epic sauce or nuclear meltdown, either way it would be spectacular!

EDIT: As qualification I've seen every episode and film except the last four of Enterprise and the aforementioned film. As an .. eh "ex-Trekkie", I was rather put off by the reboot in Yet Another Alternate Reality....
