If you live in the United States (I don't know if this trend is affecting Canada, the UK or any other country, tell me if it is.) and you turn your TV on, chances are that what you'll see is a bunch of commercials.
Out of those commercials there's almost a 100% chance that one of those commercials will have whimsical ukelele music.
Example:

I know it's a very small, minute and trivial detail, but after seeing so many commercials with similar music, it's starting to get on my nerves.

What's with this trend? How do you feel about it? Don't care about it? You'd still hate commercials even if they had your favorite song, I know, but what's with this ukelele thing?

It's supposed to be all happy and carefree sounding.

Yeah, it's kinda annoying, but hey, if you don't like it, don't watch TV

On a side note, what the fuck is that guy wearing in that commercial?

I dunno, it's calming and it makes you want to buy the product?

EDIT: Also my Dad bought a ukulele and he plays it constantly, so if you think you're tired of ukulele playing I can't sympathize for you

This is my personal favorite commercial song, though.

Nope. I rarely have need to watch something that isn't PBS, and even that is fairly minimal. There's just not a lot on TV worth watching, or that can't be instead viewed via computer.

It evokes a casual, playful feeling. It makes you feel good about the commercial, and therefore the product, by lulling your senses.

If they want me to feel better, though, I prefer this:

Heroic music FTW.

I suppose that the music is supposed to create the feeling of "Oh, happy days! Happy days! Now look how cute and whimsical my life is now that I bought this car!"

Its getting on my nerves too, but if the target audience wants it, the companies will do it.

On another note: I'm also getting tired of classic songs getting remixed to sound "modern" and put in commercials.

Robocop and fried chicken.
I just remembered why I bought a TV in the first place.

Its probably to put your mind in a state of ease so you are more accepting of the product.

I dont know, I always liked songs that kinda made the product cool. Like this Lincoln LS Commericals with the Major tom song (link for those who dont know what I'm talking about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_gXXv0M2fE ))

For some reason, most commercials are gone from my memory a few minutes after I watch them, until something reminds me of them or something.
