Hello all, I've got a question for any that cares to answer.
What makes a community site for you?
Which parts are the more important then others?
And finnaly if you where to add one function a existing community site you know, what would that be? Let your fantasy flow people.

Over and out, Leif.

The Escapist is a good community site I suppose, better than some I've visited.

Usually the user groups on here have their own communities amongst themselves, otherwise the rest of the site just seem to idolise those with higher post counts in the forums. But I try and talk to new members when I can and try and help them make a name for themselves.

Always nice to have some new blood around the place, even if they do make repeat threads it's good to go over old topics sometimes so I don't feel the need to complain.

I say the people.

The user groups are also their own little communities.

As for the main site, for some reason people seem to idolise people with high post counts. Never really knew why.

But something on this sight must be great, otherwise I wouldn't have spent almost 2 years here.

I think The Escapist struggles to have a community is because it's quite a large site; it's much easier to have a friendly conversation and get to know people when there are only say, <500 active users.

But on the other hand, The Escapist manages far better than most other sites of a similar size.

I dont really see the point of having a meaningful community. I remember a few people with high post counts and memorable avatars, but other than hat I may as well be talking to different people everyday.

The Escapist is a good community, but my old forum was better. It was much smaller, so people new each other more.

What makes a community is the people, and more specifically friends. Friends are the most important thing in a community.

What to add? I don't know.

A community is only as good as the people who make it. The Escapist community is slightly worse due to the sheer size it has grown to. Now if you want good community join a user group, small, people who share your interests, and you can just have fun there...not that you cant here just on the forums :p

What makes a community site is people, typing stuff so that other people will read it, react to it and a conversation will stem from that.

What makes a community is those that are a part of it. Good decent people with well thought out answers and strong opinions, yet willing to relax and act a little foolish every now and again, that's what I like in a community

I prefer it when there's something to strive for, like badges, but people are another important part of the site.
I'd say this site needs spell check. A lot. /Grammar Nazi rant
