I am for the most part computer illiterate. I don't know the nuts and bolts about PCs. I have a Dell Inspiron 531, a model no longer even available. It has an Nvidia 6150 integrated graphics chip. I play DDO, which is a large MMORPG. I would like to upgrade to a real graphics card so I could maybe play on something other than the low graphics setting in the game. But I don't know what my computer will support and what it won't. I don't know if I have a PCI slot or not. If I do I don't know what sort of PCI slot it happens to be. Any suggestions?

Is it a slim Inspiron 531 or a fat inspiron 531?

I have the latter, if it is the latter I can help.

You just buy the graphics card, slot it in there, and bam.

Just remember, instead of plugging in the monitor cable where you usually would, you will have a new slot, coming out the back of your computer that goes directly into your graphics card

It will all make more sense when you see the graphics card. It's scary to mess about inside a computer when you don't know what you're doing, but when you learn about it, it's just like a big lego set.

I wound up getting a GeForce Nvidia 9400 GT. It seems to be working nicely thus far.

Consult that thread. Most likely you will have to upgrade other computer parts to run the new graphics card.

Also I see you not a hardcore PC gamer and you mostly play DDO, but you can also upgrade the rest of your computer, and not spend much.
