So I have played the Crysis 2 beta, and it made me want to reinstall my copy of Crysis for my Pc.

It goes all fine and dandy until I try and start the game.

Any time I try and start the game, I sometimes make it to the splash and sometimes I don't; but everytime a window pops up with the following error.

Crysis.exe-Bad Image
The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\odbcbcp.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation disk.

Then it says Failed to load game DLL.

I have tried reinstalling, I have the latest drivers for my computer, and the last patch for Crysis. I found the file it mentions but I have no idea what exactly I could even do with it.

Can anyone help me out? It used to work fine.

(oh and this is the first thread I have ever started, yay!)

It's either hard drive error / memory problems / corrupted files.

odbc (databases) is a windows file.

Format and it should work.

Explain please? I'm not the most tech-savvy, that's why I'm asking this. Do I need to dig up those disks that the pc came with? Or..what?

*Sighs at lack of computer prowess*

Don't worry about it. I often find myself in tech support situations though I never worked there.

So, I'll start with the definition of formating. No offense if you know them, but I want to make sure.

Formatting implies effectively cleaning your computer of everything (depending on how many local disks you have). If you only have a C:\ then...it's pretty bad because it implies erasing it all. Otherwise you can keep the files on D:\. It implies re-installing the windows.

What windows are you running and did you run the game as admin? Did you play the game on a previously formated windows? Did you degfragmentate lately?

I'm still on the same computer I have had for years. It's running XP, I am the admin and I haven't reformatted. (I now know what you're talking about) And I haven't defragmented in a while. I have been uninstalling alot of old games and programs I haven't used, but I am careful not to get rid of important things.

Crysis is the only game/program that does this to me. I believe the only difference in my computer from when I first bought the game is that I upgraded my Graphics card from an Nvidia 7800 to a 250...that and the rig itself if getting up there in years.

Sadly, Crysis has so many issues that I couldn't even begin to list them all. It could even conflict with a driver of Nvidia's.

Re-download the drivers and Redist and install them. I normally would limit the problem and give more advice, but considering it's Crysis ..it's tougher. Meanwhile, I'll think about it more and try to track down a better solution, in case it doesn't work.

Edit: Do you get any error logs you could post?

Yeah...Crysis. I can get the Sandbox editor to work, but all I can do is view levels; there is no AI, no vehicles, no working scripts. I can't walk around...only view the terrain, which isn't bad looking. Just boring.

Ima re-download the drivers like you suggested. And if you do find some way to fix my problems, then thanks, I will email you a cookie. If not, then thanks for trying anyway.

Really? Odd, because almost everyone I know has had some problem or another with it. We had jokes at work that NASA made a computer to play Crysis at the best specs. It ran for 5 minutes before crashing.

I'm getting more and more convinced that computers are like medicine..they're all very different and react differently to everything.

Alright, many intense searching and analysing seasions later, I still believe the file may be corrupt or you have memory issues. It could be the fact that very few games use odbc.dll and that's why it's the only one giving you trouble. The game dll apparently depends on that windows dll and that's why it can't load.

There was a program that checked your memory but I'll be damned if I remember its name. Vista has it integrated. I'll remember it eventually.

Meanwhile, go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache (hidden file) and copy the dll over the old one. If you don't have it...I'm going to suggest formatting again. I would mail it to you or suggest that you get it off the net (not a good idea) but there are many versions of it and the dllcache is the exact backup.
