*sigh*..ok I'll keep this short as I can

long story short I have a comptuer..its pre built all geard up for gaming

now turns out windows 7 isnt installed...ok, how hard can it be?

all seems to be going fine untill it comes to time to choose "where to install wondows 7" its not pikcing up the hardrive :(

it could be a number of things, I checked all the disks and I dont have one that speard to have the driver/works for the hardrive

silly question but could I just say fuck it and get an external hardrive to use my compter with? (gaming, everyhting)

Normally, it shouldn't be much of a problem. I'm not sure if you can boot from an external hard drive, at least if it's easy - I'd imagine there might be a restriction but you probably have to switch it on/off in the BIOS. Also, definitely check if external HDD is enabled there (could be labelled "USB device" or something similar - it shouldn't be able to spot it).

However, do you have an SSD or something? The only reason I can think of for Windows to not recognise the hard drive is if it doesn't have the drivers for it. At least that was an issue XP had with newer hard drives, I assumed Windows 7 included support for...well, anything currently available. Dunno, SSDs seem like the newest tech around.

Alternatively, if it's pre-build, it could be the guys (or gals, let's not be sexist) who built it fucked something up and the HDD is not properly connected. Do go through the BIOS and see if it recognises the hard drive as a viable boot option. Also check other stuff - there might be some setting to switch for the particular type of hard drive you have.

Finally, check here [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927520] if anything covers your situation

I'm pretty sure its a HDD

so how do I enter bios?
When you start the computer it should say on the initial splash screen somewhere. It's most commonly Del/Delete but it might be something like F12 or something else. It should look like this

Probably you won't have the exact same menus but it'd be close enough - you navigate it using the arrow keys and select stuff with Enter. Just poke around the options to see if it has anything hard drive related. You should find some menu called "boot options" or "boot priority" or something along those lines that tells the computer where to look for an operating system - the options are just the device - so CD/DVD, hard drive, USB device, stuff like that. Make sure you have the hard drive chosen there. If you find the boot priority options, you can set the...priority of checking the devices in there - just make you can put CD/DVD on top and then the HDD and the BIOS will just go through them in that order - if it doesn't find anything in the first one, it moves on to the next one.
