Yeah, I figured more people would know that by now. after all it was part of their sales pitch and Chrome itself from the very beginning. OK, maybe not every person ever should know it but I've seen Computer Science students who pride themselves on being advanced Chrome users who didn't know it. And I'm talking about intelligent people, not random compsci idiots here...oktalist said:http://lmgtfy.com/?q=why+are+there+multiple+chrome.exe+running
Chrome puts each tab in a separate process, for security reasons. Nothing to worry about. Have to find something else to blame for your slow PC.
Well, it's a good browser. I's my second one, but still. There is a reason it's the most used browser now. It's light, it's fast, it's reliable, it's easy to use. It actually takes up less resources than Opera. I'd be happy if more people used Chrome. Well, over IE, that is, but still.Evil Smurf said:why do you use Chrome over the other web browsers like Firefox and Opera?

Dunno, maybe. I don't use Safari much. Like, at all. What information I have from other people, that I trust is that it's nice on a Mac but sort of meh on other OSes. Not bad, per se, but nothing that brilliant. Still better than having to use IE.Evil Smurf said:is it better then safari?DoPo said:Well, it's a good browser. I's my second one, but still. It's a webkit browser, though, same as Chrome, so take that as you will.
So, you are like me then. I'm a FF lover as wellEvil Smurf said:Well I have firefox and safari on my mac, I like firefox because it has my plugginsDoPo said:Dunno, maybe. I don't use Safari much. That way if you get a new computer (be it a replacement or just a second machine), you can have Firefox running and be your Firefox in absolutely no time. Really useful.
That's stupid. Threads are too expensive for you to go booting one up every time you want to open a new tab.oktalist said:http://lmgtfy.com/?q=why+are+there+multiple+chrome.exe+running

I only had two tabs or so open at the time of screencap, so I doubt that's the case. I tried quitting one of the 'chrome.exe' processes to see what'd happen though. Avast webrep stopped working.oktalist said:http://lmgtfy.com/?q=why+are+there+multiple+chrome.exe+running

Looks like something like that's the problem, yeah. I thought I'd turned off Skype and Windows live messenger when I weren't using them, but my taskmanager adverntures uncovered that they were running and using as much memory as chrome was.Twilight_guy said:You probably opened your browser more then once. Also, if that's normal then Chrome takes more RAM then Firefox. Suck it alpha nerd browser wars!
Also, your problem is probably not having enough memory or you have too many start up programs. You'd be amazed how often that's what's slowing down your PC.
Find a program on your computer called 'Run'. If its not on the task bar then type run into the search space that pops up when you click the windows button on the task bar. If that doesn't work you can right click the taskbar, go into portieres, click the 'Start Menu' tab, click a button that says 'customize' and check the option for 'Run command'.Jonluw said:I only had two tabs or so open at the time of screencap, so I doubt that's the case. So it looks like plugins are the perpetrators.
Edit: Read up a bit on the link. I guess I only shut down a plugin by chance, and that there were several factors causing the many .exes.Looks like something like that's the problem, yeah. There are probably a lot of superfluous processes running in the background on my laptop, but I'm not particularly computer-savvy so I'm not going to try to meddle with it.

Anyways, once run is up, enter 'msconfig' and click 'okay'. It will bring up a windows with a number of options for your computer including a Start-up tab that lists all the pogroms that are opened on Startup. Unclick everything like Adobe Reader, java, Microsoft Office, etc that you know you don't need running all the time. (Leave anything that you can't identify), don't be afraid to screw something up, nothing you unclick can break your computer.
After that, if your computer is running slow, bring up the task manager, go under 'Performance' and look at how much memory your computer is using. If your computer is using more memory then it physically has, (Computer use virtual memory too), then it will run much slower since it will be using page memory. This is a sign that you need to instal more memory.
If its not the startup programs or memory its probably the registry, which you need a program to clean that and I usually use McAfee, but of course that requires money and blah blah blah, but hopefully you can fix it before that.
You can use the search bar in the start menu for that. It's not Run but it would serve the same function. Alternatively, be a boss and press the Windows key + R which brings up Run.Twilight_guy said:Find a program on your computer called 'Run'. Damn hotkeys. Do you know how annoying it is when you do something the long way forever and then you find out there was a simple button combination?DoPo said:You can use the search bar in the start menu for that. Programs that automatically try to be "Start on Run" are borderline spyware. It's like pre-installed bloatware. Is it malicious? No. Is it needed? Generally, no. Is it annoying as fuck? Does Mel Gibson hate Jews?[footnote]The answer is "Yes".[/footnote]Copper Zen said:And here I thought it was spyware or malware that I couldn't purge that was always slowing my computer's performance to a crawl.
