Hm, I doubt its the fans becuase the comp can boot up I just can't log in to the desktop without it rebooting. If it was the fans wouldn't it just not boot up?vato_loco said:Are you absolutely sure it's a virus? Computers tend to reboot themselves when a fan or a heat dissipator is failing and makes the motherboard overheat. They reboot so that they can cool, but if you keep using the computer, it will undoubtly reboot again.
So, if you're running a desktop, open it up (if it has no guarantee, of course) and check that all the fans are running. If you're running on a laptop, try having someone with knowledge check it out. If any of both still have a guarantee running, then don't even think about it, just have THEM check it.
Its new this year.superbleeder12 said:In cases like this, if you're savy, then having a UBCD is a godsend:

If the computer is old, you may want to check the fans, clean it out for dust, etc. I haven't seen a virus/spyware which just reboots a computer. Most of the time its trying to get you to buy their bogus software so they can steal your identity.
Umm, can't really help you there; lots and lots of things that could cause that issue. Give us as much detail as possible.Korten12 said:For some reason I think I got a virus that makes it so my comp reboots when I log in, it does this for Safe mode and normal boot up. (Windows 7) Before this started happening, I got wierd errors but they popped up so fast, I had no time to react before the comp restarted. I did a startup repair, and windows memory diagnostic but they claim their is nothing wrong. I also did a system restore to an earlier point in time but apparently it failed.
What should I do?
Dell Datasafe Restore and Emergency Backup?
Honestly their isn't much I can say... The comp boots up like normal... I log in, then it will either begin to load or immediatly reboot but either way I can't do anything. After the boot up it says that Windows failed to load or boot up...Isaac The Grape said:Umm, can't really help you there; lots and lots of things that could cause that issue. Alright will try there.Talshere said:Can I recommend this site:

Ive directed many of my friends here and got most of my advice on software from their site. It might take a little bit for someone to get back to you but I guarantee it will be worth waiting.
Well I am not going to reformat since I don't want to lose all of my data.Mr.K. said:Well sometimes windows just break, I do alot of stuff on it and I'm reinstalling yearly at the very least.
So my advice is, format your windows drive and install a fresh one, cleans up every problem at once, and it really doesn't take more then an hour.
I'm assuming ofcourse you are not a dumb dumb and don't have all your files on the same drive.
Took the words right out of my mouth. There is a CD you might want to try called the Hirens Boot Disk (download the ISO from a torrent and burn it to a CD) A giant list of diagnostic and repair tools on top of being able to boot to it and rescue files.HuntrRose said:Do you have anything worth saving on that machine?
If yes, get hold of a USB drive and a linux live CD. Boot from the CD, copy all essential data onto the USB disk.
In either case reinstall Windows. It's in all likelyhood the fastest, easiest and safest solution to your problem.
P.S. If you computer fails and reboots while booting or running from the CD it's a hardware problem. Contact your computers manufacturer for support and warranty issues.
Oh, and before you dismiss this advice: I have a bachelor in Information Technology and have been working as an onsite support technician for the last 3 years.
Moving this to the more tech-savvy folks in the Advice Forum. I strongly recommend a diagnostics tool to check your temperatures, leave the virus theory till last.Korten12 said:For some reason I think I got a virus that makes it so my comp reboots when I log in, it does this for Safe mode and normal boot up. Wait... I selected my own HDD to hold the back up for the Dell DataSafe Local Backup... Does that work..?
I believe what I am going to do is use the Dell Back-up system which it doesn't reboot while using, and back up my data to a 1 TB external HDD, and then reformat, then put everything back on the HDD.HuntrRose said:Do you have anything worth saving on that machine?

As long as you get to copy your files onto USB it's all made of win. Problems like this is one of the reasons I always keep at least one linux CD around. The other is that they tend to come free with Linux Format... =PKorten12 said:I believe what I am going to do is use the Dell Back-up system which it doesn't reboot while using, and back up my data to a 1 TB external HDD, and then reformat, then put everything back on the HDD.HuntrRose said:Do you have anything worth saving on that machine?

If it runs okay from a live CD while copying the files it's tested. No need for further diagnostics after that.Sevre90210 said:Moving this to the more tech-savvy folks in the Advice Forum.
