So, I'm in the market for a mouse, and I thought "Where can I go to find out about mice?" So I asked some cats. Ten sets of claw marks later, I ended up here. So, what mice do you all use? Got any recommendations?

I use the mouse that came with my new Dell. Not sure what it really is, but it works well enough.

Heh, amusing OP.

Personally I'm very open when it comes to mouses and I'll use most anything without complaint. I don't have it near me but I do have a logitech mouse that sports extra buttons but isn't designed as a gaming mouse. I quite enjoy it.

I recommend Staples, that's usually where I picked up my mice although my latest mouse for my netbook was picked up at a discount warehouse for 3 bucks. As long as it is responsive, I'm happy.

Just go to your closest tech store and buy one you think is comfortable. 5 buttons is standard nowadays, and it shouldn't be too hard to find one with an adjustable DPI if you need that sort of thing. The Intellimouse is always nice, but it seriously just doesn't matter: get one that YOU think is comfortable... not one that some stranger on the internet thinks is good.

I use a $15 mouse I found at walmart more than 3 years ago. As long as it has a laser I'd say your good.

I got a Logitech G5 laser mouse. Best mouse i ever had. Having said that, any laser mouse is a good bet. The IR ones tend to "crawl" (move the cursor by themselves) after a while.

I have a Logitech G500, great mouse. I tried a Razor Lachisis for a while but it was wildly uncomfortable. So went back to Logitech. I also have about 3 other logitechs on older systems that I've had for many years and they are all still kicking.

Can't remember what it's called ('cos it's not important) but I have a Logitech laser wireless mouse. It does the job fine, it's ergonomic and it's served me well for... three years.

I have a Microsoft X5 mouse, it's done me well enough. (it was pretty much the only gaming mouse my local shop had). I mainly just like the weight and having an extra couple of buttons.

OT: Sorry I don't use one.
Filthy console plebeian with your disgusting analog sticks. I kid, of course.

OT: I recently picked up a Logitech MX518. Look at it. Just look at it.

Tell me your mouth isn't salivating with pure want, OP.

8 goddamn buttons, 2 being used for precise sensitivity control. (By the way, owners of this mouse or similar models, what the hell is the button that looks like 2 windows, just below the sensitivity buttons, used for?)

Perfect for any game you will ever play, sans MMOs, but really, who puts macros on a mouse?

Best part? The thing's only $35 at most retailers.

This. Though I do miss my G7 from time to time. Shame they stopped making it.

I've been using this mouse for years as well. Its precise, and works flawlessly, feels good, and mooves smoothly on most surfaces. After years, something internal happened-- I think a wire came loose-- so I've replaced it with a new one.

I have a Logitech Performance MX. I miss the adjustable weights of the G5, but this one is cordless and I'm never going back. My only gripe is that the cable used for charging is quite thick, but the battery lasts for about 14 hours of continous computer use, so it's hardly an annoying problem, just plug it in when you're not using it.

also been looking at buying a new mouse, and i've been salivating at the awesome looks and metal structural bits of the Cyborg RAT line, but i'm wondering if anyone here has actual experience with those mice--good, not good, etc

Back and forth buttons in web browser. Medic and reload buttons in tf2. Stabby-time in BfBc2. Auto-run and "emergency skill" (like infuse health) buttons in Guild Wars. My mouse also has a zoom button, which is very helpful when I'm browsing the web and something is slightly too small to read without leaning forward, thus leaving the comfortable position I have been assuming for the last hour.

Ahh, okay. See, I use the side buttons for reload and melee (or another fairly negligible key), but don't really consider those to be too big a change.

I don't want to be moving my index finger up from D to reload all the time especially in a game like TF2 where you are constantly shooting. And with most games, melee is mapped to where it would be a hindrance on my preferred control scheme, so I previously had to place it out of the way. Having it at my other thumb is a great improvement though. These kinds of things I can overlook.

In that quote, I was referring to macroing spells in an MMO. No one really uses a mouse for that, it's traditionally done with a keyboard, and for good reason. Almost no mice, aside from Razer's Naga, have the button amount necessary for those kinds of control setups.
