Okay, so a few days ago my Macbook pro's hard drive failed, and me, being an idiot, had no backup. Luckily the Apple store was able to save all of my files, unfortunately, though they were able to recover the data from my windows partition, they couldn't set up windows on the new hard drive, and my windows install disc is essentially, for all intents and purposes, not anywhere near me. This means I have to reinstall a windows partition, and do some other stuff. My old set-up was as follows:
Mac OSX (210 GB of hard drive): used for work, and some gaming.
Windows XP, with bootcamp (40 GB): gaming only.
Here are my current options:
1. Same/similar to previous configuration. Advantages: simple, familiar. Disadvantages: bootcamp is annoying and I'm given "games OR work" choice. Finding a copy of Windows XP shouldn't be too hard for me.
2. VmWare+Windows XP. I've heard some good stuff about it and some bad stuff. I've also heard stability and performance take a hit, but then again its advertised as being gaming-compatible.
3. VMware+Vista. I don't why I would pay for vista when I can probably find a copy of XP lying around somewhere on the internet, but this is also an option (albeit low on my list).
4. some other combination.
