Okay, today for Christmas, I got Windows 7. I was happy since it would upgrade me from Vista to something decent. Or so I thought.

Every time I've tried to install Windows 7, it failed or blue screened on the restart.
After many attempts to install and work around it, I eventually decided that maybe a system recovery in Vista would help fix this. After it rebooted, it began the recovery, but immediately got a blue screen. After three more attempts, it keeps blue screening.

In desperation, I attempted to F8 my way into booting on the Windows 7 CD. It worked at first, or so I thought. Once I clicked the install button for the Windows 7 screen, it popped up with an error message of something akin to a COM internal error (or something of the like), and happened again after two more tries.

This has effectively fucked me over and disabled my computer for any access (which is bad, very bad). As I type this on my backup laptop, I cry out for help for anyone to save my precious computer (Windows 7 or not).

As I thought for fixes, it also dawned upon me that my hard drive might be done for, but am quite far from an expert on the matter. Is that the problem? If not, what is? What can I do to fix my computer?

Okay, variety of things my dear Portal. Go for barebones to install an OS, I always do this because I seem to have a ridiculously high power draw when installing an OS, it confuses me as to why. Take the PC to 1 stick of RAM, use on-board graphics if available and clean the dust out of your fans -because overheating can also be a massive problem.

If this makes no difference, post again and I'll check back from time to time.

Thanks for getting to me so quick, mate.

I cleaned out the casing and removed some RAM. After doing my tricky workaround and Windows loading its files, it went to the installation screen.......

So far, it looks like it's working without a hitch. Already 90% further than it ever got past the blue screen field.

............... Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it works perfectly for some reason that I understand for NO reason whatsoever. Why does essentially downgrading a computer help it?

Anyways, thanks for your as-usual godly help, Admiral Glitter Pants. *hug*

More or less, it puts less strain on the power supply. When you install an operating system, you use more power (around twice as much) than you ever do normally, because RAM, CPU, the hard drives, dvd drive, graphics card (dunno why) and all features on the motherboard are fully active so windows can get a full reading.

I just say "If it works, it works" and ignore the technical reasons now.

Makes sense to me.

Anywho, lesser problem now that should be pretty easy for you. Download speeds are shit right now. Roughly %5 of what they were beforehand.
Any help here?

Reset the modem, that could help. You might have also breached your quota...if you even have those in the USA, I know I do, and it 200Gb/month, and I love it.

You are a technical wizard, man. Seriously, get a job in tech support and kick Bill Gates off of his fucking throne. You'll be there in a month.

Thanks a million, Vee! I owe you one...... again ;P
