Should I change any of those settings and what should I change them to? Thank you in advance.
You could try, but I don't think that it would make a change. I asked you to check that settings because one time sliders were on lowest postion (for unknown reasons) on my pc, which caused sound to be choppy.

I would recommend backup & reinstall of Windows, I did it on my old PC every two months or so, because of weird problems like that one.
Sorry for not helping you :/
If at all possible id rather avoid reinstalling windows for numerous reasons, not the least of which being that bootcamp is now only supported by the people at Apple if you have Mac Leopard which I dont and also because I cant find the Windows XP CD I used a long time ago and dont even remember the process I went through.

Thank you for your help and I may eventually have to reinstall windows somehow but if there is a way to fix the problem without doing so then id rather do that so im still open to any other ideas.

Ill go back into msconfig but about that management application...the name "realtek" rings a bell so you may have something there. Where exactly would I go to check that? Device Manager?
no, its probably in your msconfig. just a warning, do not turn off any services under the services tab unless you know what you're doing. you could render your system unbootable.

I looked through the Services tab and I didnt find anything that said "realtek" but I did find something called "SigmaTel Audio Service". The manufacturer was unknown and the stats was Stopped which I guess means it isnt running. Is this a possible factor?

SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC 5.10.5082.0
To clairfy, I wasn't very clear in my first post. A Codec IS NOT a device driver. You don't need to update the codec you need to find out the hardware that is running sound on your computer and then update the device drivers for that piece of hardware.

A quick look at my computer

What you see there, first on the list and highlighted. That's the device, in my case an Asus Xonar DX, and it's the driver for that device I would want to update. Further details and a quick look at if the device is working as expected can be found by right clicking that device and then selecting 'properties'. This should give you enough info about the device to allow you to do a 'google' search for the correct device drivers. The second item on the list is the codec and in the normal course of things I would leave that alone.

What I would not advise is that you start messing around in MSconfig looking for programs related to your soundcard so that you can disable them. Firstly because unless you know exactly what you are looking for you can mess things up big style, second the soundcard will more often than not have 2 if not 3 programs that all do different things disabling them without knowing what they do can make things worse and finally if the interface software for the soundcard was running you would have an icon in your tray which, in the normal case of things, you can right click and disable the auto start feature without having to go anywhere near MSconfig.

Oh and the other way you can find out info on your sound hardware is to select 'run' from the start menu and then type 'dxdiag' in to the run bar. Allow the software to load and then select 'sound' for the tab menu.

Again as you can see it lists my sound hardware as an Asus Xonar DX

Hey guys im back. Im planning to take advantage of a student discount at my University Bookstore. What I will do within the next few days is buy Mac OSX Leopard (I currently have the previous version, Tiger. Leopard supports full Bootcamp while Tiger only supports Beta and doesnt update) and a Windows XP CD. I will then upgrade my mac osx to Leopard, choosing to wipe out the previous bootcamp files in the process (I assume that the memory in the windows partition will revert to free memory, if I am mistaken then PLEASE let me know).

Basically I intend to start anew with a fresh install of windows xp using the full version of bootcamp from Mac OSX Leopard. This SHOULD solve the various issues my machine has been having. Also all of my valuable files including games and what not will be saved on an external hard drive and I assume will be accessible for reinstall once the new partition is complete.

Only things Im concerned about is if the memory I dedicated to windows when I performed the partition I am currently using will revert back to being free memory once I wipe the tiger files and upgrade to Leopard?

I was gonna ask if the MacBook Pro uses Microsoft's UAA drivers in conjunction with the Sigmatel ones, but since the computer is going to be formatted anyway, I guess it's no longer relevant.

I don't think you need to re-partition the hard drive once you go to install Leopard, you should be able to just format the OSX partition and install on it.

Ive read a bunch of forums and blogs on the subject and it seems that many different sources agree that choosing the "Erase and Install" option when updating to Leopard to avoid various bugs and other issues.

I also thought about it and to be safe I figured I could just erase the Windows xp bootcamp partition BEFORE I go from Tiger to Leopard and just handle them as separate operations to avoid any possibility of losing valuable C: drive space.

This almost certainly should fix most if not all of my problems since it is essentially a fresh install. I would however like to thank everyone for there support and advice. This is far more help than I have gotten on all the other tech sites ive gone to COMBINED. Great job guys give yourself a pat on the back or whatever.
