So I've finally saved enough dosh to buy a new system, and my old baby is about to be put out to pasture, but it's been a good while since I was active in the IT field and I honestly have no bloody clue about the "sweet spots" any more, having not kept up on the bleeding edge for the last 18 months or so.

So I need some advice, I've narrowed my choice down to either: This AMD system [http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1027_1029&products_id=15003].

That's about my max price once shipping is factored in, while I can build my own system, I did it for a living for almost half a decade, I really don't want too, let someone else have the hassle for a change, I just want a nice box shipped to my house that I can open, plug in, and have work, so any alternative systems must follow that rule. Oh and I want Windows 7 with the system for the same reason, I just can't be assed dealing with an install.

All alternatives must be from an Australian retailer in Australian dollars.

I do plan to do some gaming on the new system, nothing major, mainly RTS and RPG games (Civ 5 is the newest game I've been eyeing), I want something with plenty of grunt that is going to last me a while. I also want a decent case, I detest those cheap and bloody nasty things I was forced to work with for years, it's got to be a good brand, my last 4 systems have all lived in the same ANTEC case that is getting a bit long in the tooth.

What's the difference between Intel and AMD these days performance wise?

So advice welcome.

I would check through this thread: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.244446-AMD-vs-Intel-Processors-Intelligent-Discussion

And this thread: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.185381-AMD-vs-Intel-The-Phenome-II-vs-Core-i5-i7

Both discuss the difference between the new AMD and Intel processors at length.

Personally I'm a big fan of my ASUS Intel i5 based system, it runs everything I've thrown at it like a dream - especially Civilization V and New Vegas.

Let me start off by saying: great website to buy from. I myself will be building a new rig and I'll be getting my parts from them.

Personally I prefer Nvidia and Intel, but that's just me.

Well I'm really liking the AMD system, plus the intel one has a shitty hard drive brand. Hitachi's have a higher failure rate, although it IS double the space. I really hate Intels processors so I'd definately use AMD's.

I also prefer Intel and Nvidia, however my current system has AMD quad core and it handles everything I throw at it.
