The other night my computer decided to spontaneously die on me, so now whenever I try start it up there is no display whatsoever and the computer emits two beeping noises, the first one short the second one long, repeated over and over.
From what I could dig up on the internet it could mean a number of things, including motherboard failure and memory issues.
I would search a bit more but my internet's kinda screwy at the moment, so I thought I may as well try here.

My computer is a HP Pavilion a6640a and is about 3 years old and running Windows Vista (I know...) if that helps.

Anyways, any help on this is much appreciated. Thanks

Do you have any spare sets of memory you can try in the machine?
Take it as bare as possible. Motherboard, Memory, CPU, Power Supply, Video if you do not have onboard. See if you get a signal or a post screen. If you have more than one stick of memory, remove one at a time and test. Barring that, try a different set of memory. Try a different cpu next.

Most of these problems, the best way to fix it is just plain component isolation, swap out for known good parts until you find the culprit.

Yeah I'll give that a try.

Thanks a lot
