Computer Upgrade Pt. 2

So, I completed Part 1 of my computer upgrade plan; I replaced my primary HDD and Win 7 with an SSD and Win 8.

Now the next step is to save up and replace my nearly 6yr. old Radeon HD 6870s, which are beginning to show their age in performance with new games. I'm looking to replace them with a single GPU, in the 2GB-4GB RAM range. I don't want something cheap, but I don't want to have to rob a bank to afford my new GPU either.

Any suggestions?

I like this site. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html Good place to look. Double click on something and it will tell you about how it compares to similar cards and is it a good value.

For your desire (run high end games well, but don't break the bank) with a single GPU, AMD cards are a good deal. Nvidia can go faster but cost more. They SLI MUCH better than AMD can crossfire. But again, you are looking for a good deal on a single good GPU.

I'm assuming then that my Power Source, since it currently handles 2x 6870s will handle a single R9 290 as well?

I put it in today and it works!

Though I felt like a dumbass, because my brain refused to work out that a 6+2 pin cable will in fact work in an 8 pin port.
