Do Tvs really matter that much anymore? Aside from a big screen to watch stuff with several people, there's not really anything Tvs can do that computers can't. Computers can play DVDs, videos, and video games, and many other things that Tvs can't do at all. Does anyone else think that Tvs are being replaced by computers?

Yes.

I have nothing else to say. There's not much discussion here. I'm only writing this because one-word answers are frowned upon.

They are kind of. For example Im watching Shooting Stars right now on the BBC Iplayer that has been added last PS3 Update. And I think Ill use it alot more as it works very well. But I still use my TV for most things so I dont think so.

Slowly, yes, they are being replaced. I use my laptop for watching more TV than my actual TV. The main thing I use the TV for is playing PS2.

TV will always be there, because only the most hardcore techies will set up their computer or console to do what their Tv can do. Besides, can you imagine a 70 year old even wanting to do that? The only reason It may get more popular is because of iplayer, and the clones that followed.

But they will be replaced over the next few decades, as we get used to the current technology. But then again by the point I might be 70, the newest craze will more then likely complex me.

No, they aren't being replaced.
I watch my DVDs on my TV, not my computer.
I play 90% of my games on my TV, not my computer.
I watch TV on my TV, not my computer.
My TV is big, my computer screen is not.

I like my TV for being a TV, and I like my computer for being a computer.

I'm the complete opposite.

I watch DVDs on my computer,
I play 90% of my games on my computer,
and I watch almost all of my TV on my computer unless I feel like sleeping in the living room.

My TV is bigger however, but most movie nights in my social circle are held at other peoples houses.

I don't think TVs are going to get replaced unless decent PCs become so popular that most people have more than one in a household, not going to happen any time soon.

I'd say that I use my TV more than my computer(judging just by what activities you have suggested).

I watch DVDs, play games and watch TV mainly on my TV, having only done so on my computer a handful of times.

I hardly use a TV anymore. I basically stopped watching altogether when I discovered Hulu. With multiple monitors and some interesting cabling I can hook any peripheral into my system.

It's still easier to have a TV (plus DVR) as opposed to streaming videos through your computer. But I'm sure eventually TV, computer, and other forms of entertainment will all be packaged into one box that works universally around your house.

I doubt I will ever prefer to watch a show hunched over my monitor than laze on my couch, choice is the advantage that computers have over tv.

This is they key thing. In time I'm sure I'll end up having a small media PC hooked up to my TV but only for stupid stuff - I wont want to completely do away with my desktop PC or my TV, the physical arrangement of each is deliberately totally different.

Hmph, I made a vs. thread to ask whether people used a PC or a mac and got a warning from the mods. Where's the justice...

Anyway, I barely use my tv. I record a few shows and I play a console game occasionally, but other than that, my computers are both media centers.

I haven't had a TV for years. The only reason I'd want a TV is to watch movies and play console games on, but currently I've got better use for my money than a console and home theater. And even then I'd still propably spend more time on books and computer than the TV.

Add a poll, No I don't think they are being replaced at all, maybe people that play a lot of PC games do, but I use my TV for pretty much everything really.

Is this a "vs" thread?
Anyhoo, I like my TV for what it is, and my computer for its merits. Example: TV is in a big, comforting room, Computer is in a poky side room.

Replacd? No. Complemented is the word I'd use. TV has a place... the computer is just another way of watching.

If you look at the latest and greatest TV's a lot of them are no longer TV's. With so many people using digital cable boxes, computers, other tv tuners etc manufacturer have been removing the "tv tuner" from the TV's themselves and re-marketing them as monitors at lower prices.

Since my monitor has no RCA or HDMI ports, I'd say yes.

And for some reason my TV has a VGA port...
