Why would you concern yourself with Justin Bieber? Pop music has always been stupid and full of crap, he's just continuing the trend.

He's a teenage boy who looks like a five year girl, who sings like a girl, and who has a fanbase consisting of mostly girls at least 10 years younger than him (but because of how he looks seem to be about his age). No matter which way you look at him, he's an easy target for ridicule. He's like the George Bush of the entertainment world right now.

I'd venture a lot of people hating Bieber are socially awkward nerds who don't get laid, and cannot understand why a 16 years old hipster with ugly Buddy Holly-glasses from the Interwebz has suddenly become a superstar and get surrounded by thousands of chicks ready to send death threats to Selena Gomez.

Oh look, a "Why does everyone hate x popular thing" Thread!

Wow, I sure don't see enough of these every fucking day!
Is it ironic that this user is hating "why do people hate x popular thing" threads for being popular?

Perhaps, but his is hardly an isolated or even particularly remarkable case. There are plenty of wealthy people who have done a lot worse than sing a few irritating pop songs.

Kudos on nailing that other guy.

Come on! I hadn't seen a Beiber thread in quite awhile. I thought the Escapist was over this...

He's just this generations version of Brittany Spears, in male form. Can we get off it, please? It isn't that big of a deal.

To be perfectly honest, I had no idea who Justin Bieber was until the internet got all crazy with the hate and made it trendy to not only be part of the people supposedly 'ruining music' team but also to be part of the 'fuck Justin Bieber' crowd, though in both crowds, he is still well known, in other words famous.

I don't have TV anymore or cable, etc. I arguably would have never known about the kid or heard any of his music if there hadn't been this sort of "let me show you why justin bieber sucks" topics and blogs out there.

So I think anti-Bieberians kind of shot themselves in the foot the same way that their cousins the anti-Twilighticans did in that they still contribute to the renown and overall 'fame' of what they hate so much, even if they would call it infamy. The kid will grow older and people will forget about him.

That was my point. My question is: Why do people make it into a big deal?

I hate him because everyone else does.
This is half the reason he is so universally loathed.
The other half is because people just want to seem grown up and masculine and SO METAL LIKE YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW.

Honestly, the detractors seem more childish and stupid than the rabid fans.
This applies to pretty much anything with a fierce hatedom.

Because the Internet is primarily full of 18-35 year old males and stuff like Bieber and Twilight is made for 10-13 year old girls.

I find Bieber and Twilight as annoying as the next person and I loathe hearing popular culture rave over them, but the thing is they're not designed to appeal to me. Of course they don't appeal to people like us. There's no point in raging about stuff you would never want to watch or listen to anyway. I mean, I seriously doubt anybody here enjoys listening to Disney pop stars designed for kids or regularly reads inane tween lit about girls falling in love with the hot guy at school, so none of us here would ever have been put in a situation that would have exposed us to this dreck were it not for the rabid hatedom.

Still, the hilarity that comes out of people making fun of stuff like Bieber and Twilight is always a laugh, and I'll never get tired of making fun of these fads, just as I will never get tired of Vanilla Ice jokes.

I hate his music mainly because its exactly like all the other "popular music" and vice versa...when i listen to the modern pop artists i find that they all sound the same....mainly i dislike his music because it stinks of the rot of conformism and of the lack of expressionist exploration...i guess thats my nice short way of putting it

Because his songs are heavily dubbed, he can't stand alone in his songs and most of the time, his latest single is about a the same thing his last one was about (Its not a big deal to some, but this is why I don't like Taylor Swift)

That's why I don't like him. Why the world doesn't like him? Its because the poor kid has rabid wolverines for fans.

It's that he popped up out of nowhere a couple years ago, thinking that he's so hot despite his annoying voice and lame songs, and that he's completely sold himself out immediately. Every time I go out to shop I see his stupid little face plastered over a shit ton of things. I've been a fan of many GOOD bans for many years, and I have yet to see as many products with their logos during all those years than I have with Bieber over the past year; it makes me sick.

I swear, that kid or his parents must have some contacts in high places; how else would he have gotten so "famous" so quickly? By doing this, he makes a mockery of one of the best American dreams that anyone can make it to the big time with some skill and effort, but he completely bypassed the skill and effort part, and cut his way to the top.

Personally what irritates me is that he has his own damn biography written and he is only 16. It screams complete and utter sellout/cash in as you know there is most likely be another one when he like 30s/40s and then when he is older again. I try not to make too big of a deal out of it usually but this one thing that I can't stand. So mostly the fact he is a complete and utter sell out or will be and he has what been on the music scene for only a couple of years?

These threads are overdone... but its been a while since I've seen one here.

its not really that I hate him. he's a pop star, and while its not my kinda music, I wont crucify him for singing what he does. He's not Miley Cyrus who only got her foot in the door cause her dad was a semi big country music star and she went to pop while trying to hide between the moral country values you seem to have when you're a country star. I can say I dont find him interesting, but thats because there's no controversy to him. And I dont mean he has to go out and shoot somebody. But the biggest thing about him is he got a tattoo (or at least thought about it, thats was the most recent thing I heard on that), and that he may have called a kid Gay while playing laser tag. He's just... plain. I mean, I dont like Miley Cyrus, but at least she pole danced on an ice cream cart, (maybe) made a durogatory action about Asians, and (might have) smoked either salvia or cannabis. Shes at least interesting to watch in the news. THough I do think that putting out a book about your life at 16 is a bit much. And the movie thing bothers me, but cash ins are cash ins.

But yeah, its not really Bieber. Its his fans. I dont like how they listen to him and his music and dont give other music a chance. It corrupts the mind musically, and they're not as accepting to other bands. I'm more of a 90s rock/grunge/alt. rock kinda guy and like the new stuff of the decade that just past. So it just kinda bothers me that his fans dont respect the bands like Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, um... bands like Muse, The Killers, Mumford and Sons, Coldplay and others (yes, I realize some of those bands come out as late 80s, but their success period was definitely the 90s).

Plus they ignore the classics. I remember going to work.. when was it... I think it was either Tuesday or Thursday last week and a Bieber fan girl was looking at the Bieber movie poster, and when some guy had mentioned Metallica, Iron Maiden, Guns 'N Roses and even The Beatles as bands that were fad bands (this guy was pushing his late sixties to early seventies) and this girl (had to be 12 or 13) just looked up and said that she didnt know those bands but that they could never be as good Justin Bieber and that his music was not a fad and would be listened to when she was that guy's age.

So yeah... Its Bieber's lack of actions and his fan's ignorance that really bother me more then his music. His music is bearable, but I just dont like Pop.
