I wrote that as a little exercise. I am not a native speaker obviously.
Condemned 2 Review
Shortly after the release of the Xbox 360 Monolith Softwares brought out a feast for all horror fans. By focusing on melee combat, despite the fact that you played in first person Condemned had a unconvential concept. And even though you rarely got a firearm in your hands Condemned worked perfectly and could on top of that draw you in with its tight atmosphere. The only flaw was the absence of variety in design and gameplay. But it sure looks as if Monolith Software pinned those flaws on top of their To-Do-List.
Again you play as ex-agent Ethan Thomas who became an alcohol addicted homeless after the events of the first game. After the nameless city got almost flooded with crime and violence his old colleagues from SCU turn to Thomas. Even though he is not really excited about it he gets drawn in by the happenings, when he finds out that Malcolm Vanhorn, a shady character from the first game, is missing. The plot gets more complex when he finds out that some mysterious organisation, called the Oro seems to be at the bottom of all this. This time the story is far more important and a lot more exciting than in the first time and you may find yourself quite surprised by some of the plottwists.
But some things also changed in terms of game design. In his second adventure Ethan Thomas is armed more heavily. Especially in the second part of the game there are a couple fps-like shoot outs. On one hand that makes the game more varied but unfortunatly it also means that the experience isn?t as atmospheric and creepy. In terms of variety the new and improved forensic bits need to be mentioned. In contrast to the first game, where you basically just followed instructions you now have to turn on your brain a bit to solve the point and click tasks. But you shouldn?t be too challenged.
Technically the game made an enourmous step forward. Compared to its predecessor Condemned 2 has sharper textures and more detailed character models and surroundings. Some areas really brim over with neat little details. But the areals are also larger and more varied than in Criminal Origins. The new levels include a doll factory, a museum and some kind of abandoned vessel. Again you get more diversion in exchange for a less scary atmosphere.
All in all Condemned 2 does everything right. Reasonable new elements, a thought-out combat system and astonishing graphics. If you can tolerate the lack of oppressive atmosphere and chills you get a great successor to Condemned 1.
