I loved Condemned, even though you walked like a slug and some of the levels were a bit boring, I still thought that it was great. Watching the trailer for the second one had me baffled. Why did the main character suddenly change!? Did the guy who did the voice acting in the first one decided to sell out for Heroes? If so... that wouldn't bother me so much. At least get a voice acter who's a wee bit similar not someone who doesn't even sound vagly like him. But that's not got to me. Oh no. What made me scratch my head was the fact that he doesn't even act like Eithan from the first one. Since when did he start going all 'Nam war vet that will beat people up if they looked at him wrong? When did my beloved Eithan start blurting out one liners like he was in a Bond flick? Why is he now so god damn violent?! I know you're beating in heads with crow bars and zapping baddies to death in the first one, but I had a feeling that he had some ends to it all. But now look at him. He's just as pychotic as those deamon possesed drugies from the first. Is it a 'he who fights monsters' situation that has driven him to completely become a different man, or the fact that the writers and developers are a buch of shit flinging chimps?

Actually, it's supposedly because he became an alcoholic after the first game, in an attempt to cope with the state of the world and that which he knows.

Spoilers!

Err, it's fairly well established in the ending to Condemned that Ethan is well over the madness horizon and accelerating rapidly. (Also, I suspect the Revenge ending will be the canon one, as that seems to fit better with the final scene where he starts turning into the hate monster thing.)

Also, if you read the extra material in the first game (the dossier on Ethan and what's actually going on), it's revealed that he's undergoing some real physiological change, to the point that he may not even be fully human any more.

I was going to say what Swine did.
From the ending it seems as if whatever horrors Ethan experienced in the first game have already taken their toll on him.

He's not the same person he was at the beginning of Condemned, that's for sure.

But it's not those things that get to me. I understand how he's changed. But this is a whole new him! It's not like :Ethan, my how you've changed." To me it's more like, "Who the hell are you?! What have you done to Ethan?!"

Ethan can goes as razy and balistic as he wants. He can take to alcohol and drugs. He can become a bum if it makes him feel good. Ethan becoming a drunk bum is great because of what happened to him in the first one, but the new him just isn't him. As far as I remember, Ethan wasn't blurting out one liners in the last game and sounding all low and sexy with is husky man voice. The game trailer sounded like a lone ranger game. The game looks great and horrific as ever, but the trailer made me scratch my head.

The voice actor switch up was an intentional move by the developers since Ethan is now listening to Linkin Park, and letting his mum cut his hair. The dramatic change in that respect at least does seem a little too similar to the Prince of Persia syndrome for comfort, but it is all done to reflect the change that has come over him.

After having watched the trailer I'm a lot less excited for this than I was.
The game looks great but that VO sucks.

I agree with PurpleRain, it's just too different really.
Ethan should be some kind of shell of his former self, not a totally different person.

What was that about Navy SEALS or something? How would he know?

Exactly. Finally some body who understands. I don't really look into this sort of thing, but I was wondering if there's also a different developer working on it, or a different crew? Because something just feels so wrng with Ethan's character.

EDIT

Everyone still understands that I only just feel uncomfortable with Ethan's character change. Tha game still looks as scary as ever and will be great fun.
