So I recently finished Condemned: Criminal Origins, and I thought it was terrific. I'll be picking up the sequel sometime this summer, but in the meantime I was wondering what the consensus among Escapists was (regarding the sequel)? Yes, I've seen Yahtzee's review, and I know the practice of making decisions based on the opinions of another is considered anathema to many of you, but I figured I'd ask anyway out of curiosity.

Funnily enough Condemned 2 has been sitting in my drawer unplayed since January. I decided to hold it off till I finished the first one, but ever since I got stuck at this one part I lost interest to ever go back and play it, so yeah I wonder if Condemned 2 is overall a better experience.

It's a bit more of Condemned 1 in my opinion. And as Yahtzee said its plot goes a bit insane in the end.

Still, I enjoyed it and was promptly freaked our.

Good for 3/4ths, then dips into mediocre territory.

Strong rental, weak buy would be my recommendation.

It's a really good game. Full of atmosphere and "ohshitohshitohshit" moments.

You just have to try and not let the riculousness of the plot get to you.

Of course this is coming from someone who actually enjoyed Indigo Prophecy.

To answer your question, Condemned 2 is a fine game in it's own right. If you ignore the weird story and just go in for the hobo-bum fights, you will have a blast.

Also, run the fuck away from the bear.

The beginning is fantastic, and the combat is much better.

Then you get to the 3/4 mark, guns start to be the only weapons used, the plot goes to hell, and the game begins to suck.

I would buy it, I really enjoyed it and it scared the crap out of me. Nothing more terrifying then being chased by a bear that wants to rip your nuts out. GET IT

My thoughts exactly, and I have to say that the hotel was really the highlight of the whole thing. It almost made up for the horrible cabin wire tracking level.

If you really want to play this game please just rent it. It is not worth a full purchase.

The best way I can voice my opinion on the game is to tell you to watch ZP's review of it and I'll say "pretty much this".

Alright, seems like the majority of the game is worth giving a go, save for a wonky final 1/4. I'll carry on as planned, then. Thanks everyone.

thing is for me I initially hated the first game, I bought it traded it in and forgot about it. I bought it dirt cheap a year or so later and loved it. So much so that I imported #2 from the US (region free) for £65 including postage because it came out 3 weeks earlier over therr than in the UK

and it has been sitting in it's wrapped on my shelf ever since, unplayed. I think rainbow six vegas came out or something and I never got around to opening it

It has the best hand to hand combat bar none. For the first three quarters of the game it is intense, brutal and gripping. However once guns become plenty it degenerates a bit and the last level reminds me of a poor man's Citidel from Half Life 2.

It's a shame that the rest of that level deteriorated into a 20 minute shootout filled with exploration in one of the most hard to navigate settings of recent video game history.

Especially since that bear set-piece was really good. :l

Best melee combat of any game ever. Plot goes down the crapper with the 'ancient cult of which you are the savior' and BAM! you have a super-power. Still, great game, worth playing, multiplayer is ... interesting. I might actually pick this up again, along with the original since they're both like $10 at Gamestop.
