Condensation line keeps freezing:

It's attached to my addition propane heater. We keep it down temp wise most of the time.

Can I shut the condenser down for the season? What does it do anyway?

EDIT: I called the plumber. He told me my kind of heater always requires the condensator to be on. I used a hair blow dryer to warm it enough to drain. May be the story of my life for a months. Then I'll have someone look to re-engineer it. You want water to drain away faster than it can freeze.

When our external condensation pipe to our heater froze in the Winter, I just lagged it (wrapped it in low thermal conductivity insulating material) with lots of lagging and duct tape (the lagging I used looks like shiny silver bubble wrap, but you can also get rubber or foam lagging). That seemed to keep it from freezing and allowed the boiler to function properly.

You could also look at changing the angle of the pipe/line so that it's steeper and the water drains away quicker, and you could also consider getting a wider line which will take longer to block-up if the water does freeze, but the simplest fix you can do yourself without is just to lag it, and lag it good.
