Hey guys. My name is Brian, and I'm conflicted about my future.

You see, I've never quite fit in anywhere I go in high school and below. Elementary through middle school, I was bullied daily. Only in high school have O found an output called Drama class. However, much as this is a good output, nobody in the department really thinks of me as an asset. As a result, I have no idea what I wish my trade to be.

My parents want me to go to college. I want to go in the military. My parents, after a long time of thought, have decided that if I go into the military, then it is my descision.

With this, I cannot choose what branch to go into. I'm torn between Army, which is more physically demanding, but would get me a shot at combat, and Navy, which is much less physically strenuous and more mentally taxing.

What would you pick in this situation?

I guess it really comes down to how easily you get sea sick. I personally would go into the army, but that's just because I like being on land more then I do on the ocean.

If have have the money, buy a ticket on a cruise ship. That will tell if you get sea sick or not and it might help you in your decision. Take a week vacation somewhere away from everything.

I really need to follow my own advice.

Don't go into the military?

Just because you have been bullied in school isn't the end of the world. If you do well enough to go to university/college you'll find somewhere you fit in.
And after then, you'll earn a good living without getting shot at.

If you go into the army, you'll want to be at a military college first. In Canada, the Army will pay for your post-secondary education if you commit to enlisting. Going right into the Armed Forces from high school might screw your future, especially if you have the bad luck to get blown up in Iraq. I recommend you join the Navy to stay out of danger, unless you already have skills that will be suited to keeping the peace on dry land.

If you must pick between the two I would say Navy. Most of my family has been in the Navy it's long but you get to travel the world and see some amazing places. Just remember tho collage is so very (very) different from high school. Kind of a fend for yourself to do good, while other people are doing the same.

The navy has the coolest uniforms and a rich history of sodomy.(Someone had to say it)

Also, you're not as likely to see combat. I had some hilarious conversations with a drunk sailor who monitored the nuclear reactor part of a modern sub.

Why not Marines? It's the only branch of the military where anger and hate are your sources of Power. The first 3 days, you're not allowed to sleep. They break you down and take away your individuality. The only thing left to differentiate you is Power. The more aggressive you are, the more likely you are to succeed.

And if you're a shy, gentle, kind and friendly person, well...

...you turn into me. You develop an unhealthy paranoia that everyone's against you. This creates an underlying fear of being attacked (be it physically or verbally). The only way you can keep living with that fear is to turn it into anger and hate.

It's basically true what Yoda says: Fear>Anger>Hate

There's suffering, but you either inflict it on the Enemy, or bear it for your friends.

And it's hard keeping a relationship. You're always paranoid they'll leave you or cheat on you. There'll be plenty of times you wished you died in war, because things were simpler: you directed your hate towards the enemy. But back in the civilian world, unless you're a police officer, you have nowhere to direct your hate except internally.

Damn it, I'm ranting again.

What do you have against cool uniforms?

Anyhoo... I'm leaning towards Navy for the reasons Jinxzy posted. You'll get to see alot of great places. Good luck, pal.

The sodomy is totally optional, if there was some confusion on that part. But there is the reality of being surrounded largely by dudes for months on end, though the Army isn't much better in that regard. Again, better uniforms and less bullets. Also, I think the Navy has a richer history of ceremony and tradition.

The Navy, if there is a zombie apocalypse you are most safe, but in all seriousness the navy, mental fortitude will serve you better later in life.

If you had plans to go to college, you can milk the Army for quite a bit.

If the military is what you are looking at for the rest of your life, however, I'd personally go with the Navy. Especially if I was bullied in school, as that is likely to make me want to leave my hometown for 18 months at a time to try and escape that kind of scrutiny.

If you really want to join the military go for it. Ask yourself firstly, what is it about the military that appeals to you so greatly. If you can pin it down to some very specific things that you can't get elsewhere, then that's probably a sign that you should do it. If on the other hand your sentence starts with "um" or "er" then perhaps give college some more thought.

I see that you're lucky enough to live in a rich western country. This means that for you, the chances of being killed in the army are present, but minimal. Chances of coming home with a permanent physical or mental disability however, are very good. Think carefully before you choose this option.

The navy is lower risk, certainly, although when deaths do occur, they occur in sizeable numbers. It certainly helps the risk factor, that the main enemies of your country don't have much in the way of sea or air power. The navy might also give you a bit more mental stimulation if you're into that sort of thing. I'd pick the navy personally because I'm not very physical, but then I wouldn't ever join any armed forces anyway so that point's a bit moot.

There's always the marines as well but I don't really know a lot about that. Seems to combine all the disadvantages of being on a boat with all the disadvantages of getting bullets thrown at you, but then I'll admit I'm quite ignorant about what marines actually do so I could be wrong and maybe don't take any of my advice here.
