I heard that Spotify will be available in US! Spotify which is my music service of choice!
for those who don't know what it is here is a quick rundown:
It's a music service which resembles Itunes but instead of buying the tracks you can either use the free version, which have commercial and a 10h playtime a month cap or you get the premium service which costs (if the prices will stay the same as here in Sweden) 15$ a month with no commercial and no playing cap and the ability to stream music directly into your phone or jsut check their webpage out: http://www.spotify.com

so, thoughts? will you use it? check it out? or just ignore it?

Probably ignore it. A movie streaming rental service like netflix or hulu is one thing. That I can get behind. But I like to own a copy of my music. Not to mention, it sounds like if I want to listen to music when I'm not at my computer, I'd have to depend on streaming internet over the phone, which is simultaneously expensive and slow.

Also, my experience has been that services like this tend to have the most popular music, but if you want something a bit more obscure (as I often do) then you're shit out of luck. I'd rather just pick the songs I actually like enough to buy, and put them on my iPod to play wherever I want regardless of how strong my internet connection is at the time.

I use a YouTube converter = /

If it's on YT, it can be on my iPod fo' free.

The monthly fee would force you to buy a LOT of songs just to feel like you're getting your moneys worth. I don't know that many bands, so I just get a few new songs a month.

EDIT: Kudos OP for Retro Spiderman.

Sounds cool, but if you can download the songs with DRM, just get AudioTaxi, and it can strip the DRM off. That would be the only thing I would use it for. Other than that, I can either find songs I like (and I'm really picky about my music) via Google, or a Youtube Downloader, like HumpinHop.

They got loads of smalltime obscure bands... It's really easy to put up the songs there, a couple of my friends made a song just for fun and they put it up there. As long as you have the creators approval anything will go on!

BTW, say some obscure band and I'll see if I'll find it! this could be interesting

Eh.....I don't really do the whole streaming thing. Not for movies, not for anything. Call me old-fashioned, but I still prefer CD's

it never was "the land of the free"(for me). false advertisement makes the world go round..[/quote]

Or rather, it was never the land of "you get stuff for free." We have the freedom to do a lot of stuff, but we're one of the most heavily capitalist countries on the planet. I blame cold war fears of communism, personally.

OT: It doesn't sound all that interesting, personally. Between the 10 hour weekly limit and the fact that it's tied to a computer, I'd rather just play an mp3 or spin one of my records.

Spotify has nearly anything. If it has been published, chances are you'll find it in spotify.
