Congratulations?

A good friend of mine got her driver's lisence a few days back. She proudly stated this fact on facebook, and people responded by congratulating her.

What? Am i the only one who finds this weird?

Congratulations on passing a test is almost like saying "wow, you were lucky!"

Isnt "Good Job!" a more appropriate response?


Also, another one of my friends recently got into a relationship, same thing with Facebook.

Congratulations on getting into a relationship? Isnt just "Hey, thats great!" or "so happy for you guys!" a more appropriate response?


...Yes, i do realize this is a pretty stupid thing to post about, but still. It just struck me as weird.

Yay what? What is there to celebrate? A poor excuse to make a thread discussing this stuff. Naturally, this annoys me, especially since I'm a conspiracy nut because I immediately link it to the JFK Assassination, which then gets linked Cuba which is then linked to Russian which is then linked to Kevin Bacon and goes back to Russia after they Fed Ex issue. THEEENN~ Oh dear. It would appear the majority has gone into a Conspiracy rant. Don't worry, it doesn't last long, luckily I trained my Subconscious to resist such rants and take over in such a case, but it's not~ THAT IS NO MOON~rfect. Its the best I can do though and I think I'm about to stop right abooouuutttt now~ AND THEN WE ALL GET OUR GUTS RIPPED OUT BY PINK FLAMINGOS! All because little Johnny needed to make a Celebratory post about reaching 10,000 posts!

Over Dramatic? Yes, but I'm bored and I think you're well within your ideals here. A test is pass or fail, it just doesn't come to you like a Birthday.

(Disclaimer: I support ONE big celebratory post per user. If I don't think you should be doing 2 or even 3 just because you post fast enough to reach those milestones. If you edit your posts after realizing your success, that's fine too, its not the subject matter. And don't take the story to harshly, I did it because I was bored after all.)

I know people who got their driver's license after 5 or 6 tries so congratulations would be in order. When people around you are dimwits, congratulations are in order for being competent.

Eh I usually say "Nice" and leave it at that. I usually do that because I am a attention hog and I will say OMG GUYS I JUST SHOT A GOAL. Yeah no just kidding. I don't like it when people act like stuff thats suppose to happen is a big deal

B) Facebook connects you to your friends
Therefore
C) Posting personal achievements on Facebook however meaningless should result in you feeling better about yourself

I think the Latin meaning is to 'rejoice together with the one who has been honoured'.

'Con' meaning a communal sort of activity, 'grat' representing the joy and 'ulate' turning the whole thing into an verb.

Seems rather fitting, if you ask me. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

Hence why I'm neutral on most things. If I do comment on liscensing, it's usually to remind them of an easily-broken rule. The "no minors in your car if liscensed under a year or under 18". Most people respond with, "Fuck off, I do it to protest the law" or something like that.

I've never really paid much attention to those things. I never did something like make a celabratory thread about getting Gone Gonzo or something like that. I just feel proud of myself for whatever and don't care if I tell other people or not.
