Console Avatars Idea

Some people find avatars, such as Miis and 360 avatars, totally and utterly pointless.

Yes, they will have some interacton with games but in the entirety of gaming experience they mean very little.

Things like the Legend of Zelda character Navi and the Net Navis from Megaman.EXE made me think why can't the avatars be sort of like a little console companion or helper to you?

The console host would be a little character that is the host of your console, they would tell you things like you've got mail, congratulations on that last achievement you got in Halo/COD4.etc, or simple things like an organizer telling you you've got a dentist appointment or something like that.

Their images could either be custom or already created so you could download loads of different images for your host like a little anime maid or a giant robot of death, also you could download the character's personality so you could have a happy go lucky character or an annoying character so instead of "you've got mail" your avatar could say "Wake up man! someone sent you mail ", and also there would be ineracting with them where you can just talk to them and pick responses and boost companionship.

Also you could have special character's for download from developers every so often.

Yes it sounds like a game similar to Animal Crossing but with avatars, but atleast they wouldn't be so lifeless and boring.

Anyone else think it's a good idea?

When writing the post I immediately thought of a paper clip.

I just think it would make the system more entertaining you usually don't hang around at the system screens but if there was a helper avatar you may spend more time on it than the games.

the first thing I thought of was that when I read this.

I agree to having custom skins and personalities. The idea of the Arbiter worting angerly at me to shoot pleases me, That or an Imperial Legion soldier whimpering that I have violated the law when I score a head shot.

Honestly, I read your first sentence and felt a tangent coming on, so I haven't got around to reading the rest yet.
I don't like these 3D avatars. I don't know exactly what it is, but anytime I see one it makes me want to stick 2 fingers down my throat. Maybe it's because I don't want a little me staring at me. I don't know, they just rub me the wrong way.

I would get on board if I could have one of Aeris from VG Cats, Sakura from Naruto, Athena from KoF or Nakoruru/Rimururu from Samurai Shodown. Thaen it would be awesome. And if they went along with the characters persona too. Like Match of the Millenium olympic mode, where you have you coach as Karin or Rimururu and you can chat to them about stuff and Karin hates you if you say you like Sakura etc. That was pretty cool.

I mentioned this idea to someone else before (Jobz I think) but I'll say it here too. If you're going to have a helpful little avatar thing it should have the voice and personality of Orson Welles. The man is just pure molten awesome. Pure Molten awesome in a cup. And not just any cup, some fancy expensive type of cup you've never even heard of.
Either that, or David Attenborough
Or John Lennon.
