I am trying to decide between buying a PS3 and a XBox360 Elite... i dont know what one to buy... im leaning towords the Elite but i want to know more first. People used to talk all the time about the large amount of "Red Ring of Deaths' and other general problems with the Xbox. I want to know if they have fixed or even improved how often people have things like that happen. Also, if those problems do happen, what can the company do for you? i have heard that if it breaks they will fix it or send you a new one but only once, and if it happens again you're screwed... is this all true? I have tried looking at other sites but couldn't find much and i want to know.

Red ring is warranted for 3 years. Any other problem just for one. Well assuming you buy a new console.

The fail rate is less than it used to be. Frankly my 360 has red ringed twice, and been repaired twice. I still love the thing though. (mine is an old 2006 model btw, before they sorted the problems)

Just choose whichever console has the most appealing games library and features.

Also if you plan on playing online a lot, choose the one most your friends have if you have similar tastes in games. Trust me playing online with friends is so much more fun.

Depends. to be honest there both the sameish.
I'd go for what most of your friends have because its a lot of fun online with friends.
But for reliability i would say PS3. (i am an Xbox 360 owner)
Way up the exclusives and go for the one that suits you

also, on the subject of RRoD. The xbox can only take so many hours of play at one time, give it rests and you should be perfectly fine

EDIT: almost forgot. here you go

Either one is fine, as mentioned above.
If you dp end up not figuring out which you would prefer to buy, flip a coin.

It mostly depends on the games you like/want. If you could give some examples of your favorite games, it might be easier to give you an answer. But it sounds like Xbox 360 is more for you if that's what you're leaning towards. After all, would you rather have a console that you really enjoyed but eventually broke, or one that lasts forever but you never played?

Don't be too dependent on PS3's reliability - though it is true that it has a much lower chance of crashing than the 360, the warranty for a component failure (the so-called 'yellow light' of death) is MUCH shorter than that of the 360's warranty - so if you have an unreliable 360 and it breaks in, say, 2 years, you can still have it fixed for free, no problemo.

However, with the PS3, if you one of the unfortunate ones (like myself) to find that your lovely console has broken, then it is quite costly to repair, as the standard warranty only lasts for 1 year in comparison to the 360's 3 year warranty (for RROD).

So, suprisingly on the reliability front the 360 actually does have some grunt against the PS3.

Personally, I'd still go with the PS3 though - its the console on the rise, and, with its MAHUSSIVE power, PS3 exclusives are likely to become better and better, graphically and size wise, in comparison to 360 exclusives, which are showing the stretches of what the console can achieve.

In the end though, its your choice!

360. I want to say PS3, but the games that are on both tend to run better on 360, for some reason.

PS3, it has more exclusives (better is an opinion, i am saying it has more)
free online play (more free stuff you have to pay for on xbox live) PSN is catching up to LIVE
littlebigplanet (don't laugh)
uncharted 2 (everybody needs to try this)
and soon to be MAG (first person shooter with 256 players)
blu-ray
play psp games with remote play
more reliable
games on both 360 and ps3 usually look better on 360, but ps3 exclusives look better than any 360 games mainly due to the cell processor

I disagree, I have both and I find that most tend to run better on the PS3, just my opinion though.

I say try the PS3, I like it more then my 360 and the exclusives are more fun... except for Mass Effect... Oh Mass Effect *drool*. Stupid 360 had better be fixed by the time ME II comes out, if it isn't someone is going to die.

I was having the same problem not too recently. I sided with the PS3; it was a nice refreshing change from an xbox which most people have, and for that extra £50 or so you get a bluray player, wifi and free internet gaming. Considering Live costs like £30 a year (thats right isnt it?) i think it evens out pretty quickly, and i havent really had any real problems with the PSN... dont know why people complain. Sure there isnt any cross game chat, but thats not a problem for me tbh.

Game wise they are very similar. In this aspect the 360 just wins imo. A year ago i would agree there was no contest that the 360 had better games, but the past year has been good for ps3. Regardless, the library for each system is relatively similar, and considering how gaming has progressed there are relatively few exclusives as it is anymore.

Whichever you choose will be good enough im sure. Both systems have their positives, but i have just listed the reasons as to why i bought a ps3 instead of an xbox.

:p

I've heard the exact opposite. I mean, review sites state constant issues with PS3 versions scoring lower. And they can't all be corrupt.

Gamespot is just a dick about it though.

Bayonetta and Dragon Age both scored a FULL point lower on PS3.

It is very well possible, but I can't find a problem with PS3 versions (except for Ghostbusters, that was messed up).

The very first issue I heard of was FEAR.

Just go with whichever one has more friends playing. I wouldn't be able to put up Xbox Live if I didn't have 2-3 real life friends online at any given time. If it's split pretty even, go Xbox, if only because cross-game voice chat is fucking worth the subscription cost alone. The party system I believe is one of the greatest things that has happened to online console gaming(I know nothing about PC gaming), ever.

Cross-game voice chat with up to 8 people and an auto reconnect if you lag out? WIN
Provides an outlet for 12 year-olds to talk amongst themselves without ruining your game? WIN
Allows the racists/homophobes to congregate with racist/homophobe friends who no longer interrupt your game? WIN
Are they such pathetic douchebags that they don't have friends to congregate with? Mute Button.

That's my main reason that I prefer LIVE to PSN.

I only got it once, and that was after I got Live.

Like others have said it depends on your gaming style. I find that the PS3 offers a better campain and link gameplay but the online is laking. That being said though, it is free so you can't really complain. I think that they are trying to fix their server though to make it more efficent and lag out less but I wouldn't trust me on that. If your more into the multiplayer online sort of thing then defiently go with LIVE. I find that once you get past all the spoiled kids who only yell, the multiplayer is a lot of fun. The server is usually a strong one, basically you get what you pay for. The other thing is, while a lot of people have both or are switching over to the PS3, LIVE does tend to have a bigger server and more people online. My biggest thing about LIVE is the extra add-on's to games you have to buy to play all the multiplayer online but I haven't owned a PS3 in a while so I couldn't tell you if that's the same for them.

Concerning the red ring, I've had mine sent in once and it was fixed and shipped back to me all in the course of like a week as long as you know how to properly pack it. Most of the older versions of the consol are the ones who have the issues with multiple red rings, but you mentioned the getting the elite, so I don't think it's much of a concern.

If you want multiplayer, stick with the PC (even if your current rig can't play games, you can build something for around the same cost as an xbox 360 elite that will comfortably play all current gen games on reasonably high settings).

If your heart is set on a console, it depends. I have both, and I play the PS3 a lot more (at least lately). Both consoles have pretty good pros and debilitating cons. The PS3 is hard to port too, and as such there are sometimes visual glitches and general problems with multiplatform games where the xbox runs them fine (there are a few select titles that were made for the ps3 and ported to the xbox, in those cases the trend is reversed). I find the PS3 controller to be terrible (it was good when I was ~12, but my hands outgrew it years ago). Xbox live is a joke, I've actually had more sucess with PSN (in that I don't get matchmade to dial up connections somewhere across the ocean every second game) so I guess if you want online multiplayer, I'd be shying away from the xbox. The xbox also tends to have better graphics, the graphics processers are a whole generation newer than the playstations and the xbox upscales to 1080p (where the ps3 just runs most games at their native 720p), so things tend to look slightly better on the xbox (not always, but as a rule, PS3 exclusives tend to have a lot of work put into them and often look better than comparable xbox games simply because of committed developers). The peripherals for the xbox 360 are a joke, they cost stupid amounts of money (hard drives, wireless connections etc), if you want any of those be prepared to fork out buckets of cash. The PS3 comes with playTV nowadays, which is a cool feature (lets you play and record TV), that's probably worth considering if you don't have a hard disk recording system.

Overally, I'd recommend the PS3 as it seems to be better value than the xbox 360 right now. While the game library is far smaller, it has more exclusives that I'm interested in playing. Basicially, buy whatever systems exclusives appeal to you most, if you want to play god of war, demon's souls or metal gear solid 4 go for the playstation, if you're more into halo, fable or gears of war it's the xbox.
