As time goes on, i find myself leaning more towards online gaming. I never thought i would branch out from Single player gaming, but the transition happened so seemlessly, that i didn't realised that i shifted from single player to online, before it was too late. Now i find myself playing mostly online games. While there are no shortage of competitive games in many genres , i'm mainly looking for online co-op games. I just like the enteraction with other people. Perferably on on console and with voice chat. No mmos please.

Co-Optimus [http://www.co-optimus.com/games.php] is the place to go do some searching.

As for me personally, I've played and finished the entirety of Saints Row 2-4 on PS3 and loved them all. There were some major issues with network failures but that was after playing for over 5 hours, plus my friend kept starting co-op games using PSN as default, instead of choosing LAN, which would have been better because we were in the same room.

Saints Row 3-4, plus Gat Out of Hell (and maybe SR2)

-Obvious reminder: you need two consoles and two copies of the game-

Playing these games co-op built upon the single player version because in single player there are multiple parts where you're riding shotgun in a vehicle while an NPC is driving, making these sections "on rails". In co-op, those rail sections changed to where the other player was driving. Unfortunately the same player is always made to be the driver (I think) but the missions were always a challenge and either position, be it driving or shooting, was a blast to play. Whoever initiates the co-op game always has their world loaded, so whoever joins in cannot buy properties and thus make more money passively. Both players can be on opposite ends of the map, and if someone initiates a mission, the other player has the option to accept/decline.

Once accepted, player 2 is teleported to the mission start, regardless of whatever you were doing or how high your wanted rating is. It should go without saying that the Saints Row series should only be played with friends as there are plenty of assholes with cheats turned on who want to join your game and just trololo the entire time.

Borderlands (all of them). This should be obvious. Multiplayer is the only way to play Borderlands. Split screen is fine, but having your own screen is the best way to play it.

Halo Anniversary - The only reason I suggest Halo Anniversary is because you finally get to play the original Combat Evolved campaign with other people, full screen. I've never played Anniversary but I do remember the original CE on the old Xbox only saved at the level start, meaning you had to finish an entire chapter if you wanted to save your progress in multiplayer. It used to take hours just to save our progress. Also, the only campaign I really loved was the original Combat Evolved. Maybe it's a case of "first is best" bias, but I've given the Halo sequels more chances than I care to remember, and I always go back to CE.

Far Cry 4 (and 3 maybe?) - The one thing that surprised me about Far Cry 4 on PS4 was that you could send a "Key to Pripyat" to a friend and they could play a lot of missions (but not the main campaign) without actually owning the game. I'm guessing the same has been done for PC. The only issue with FC4 on modern consoles is that you can only play "online", not over LAN. This really pissed me off because my friend and I both refuse to pay for PSN on principle alone, and while we both owned full copies of Far Cry 4, there was still no LAN option.

Diablo III - I've never played D3--at all, but the multiplayer situation does make me curious. I like how it will run on PS3 and playing online appears seamless, but if I recall correctly, you can also play up to four people on the same system, same screen. That part sounds like it could be annoying. I can't imagine how they handle inventory menus in the middle of a shared screen. Still, it's nice to have the option to only pay for one copy of the game and play locally--without being forced to go online. That alone makes D3 sound appealing to me.

I guess the proper term for playing with a friend without having to connect online is
offline multiplayer.

Dying Light is some excellent zombie smashing fun, and greatly improved in co-op over single-play.

Far Cry 4 has co-op, but I found it irritating how often its locked out. You can largely just liberate outposts and do the eventually repetitive free roam Karma events, few if any actual missions.

GTA Online can basically be a co-op experience, if you can get the thing to let you connect properly, and keep the Next Job selector on missions instead of drifting into the 8 billion races and deathmatch jobs (You can refresh the voting page, but only twice).

The DLC for Watch Dogs has co-op missions, but I don't think they're especially involved.

Destiny is largely co-op, but finding entry-level partners could be a rough patch.

There's a sizable batch of the "Free To Play" MMOs on PS4, and probably on XB1 as well, which could be done co-op.

And Minecraft on current-gen can co-op played if so desired. I'm not sure about last gen.

A friend and I used to do quite a bit of coop gaming. Let's see, there was Resident Evil 5 and 6 which was quite fun. With those there was coop play in the main campaign and the extra modes (Mercenaries, for example). With Resident Evil Revelations, there was only coop in the extra raid mode. Others were Saints Row 4, Little Big Planet, Dead Space 3, and Lost Planet 2. I also really like the Souls games for the online play aspect. While I've never summoned another player to help, it is an option. And I've noticed lots of opportunities to summon too. Of course, the flipside to this is invasions. For voice chat, though, I think Dark Souls 2 might be the only one with that option. I know Demon's Souls doesn't have it and I'm not sure about Dark Souls.

I think the Splinter Cell games, or at least SC: Blacklist, does this.
Monster Hunter games are online co-op / 4 player games.
Not much else I can think of now to be honest :/

Yeah i already have MH4U on the 3DS. That game would be enhanced greatly with voice chat.
