Console wars (not a VS. thread)

I know that the console (and PC) wars are the "forbidden fruit" of the escapist but I was hoping that we could have an intelligent discussion as to the motives behind them. I don't care which one anyone prefers I simply want to know what my fellow escapists thoughts on the motives behind them are.

I personally think that quite a few fanboys are teenagers that constantly need to reassure themselves that they chose the "best" console (or PC) because they can't afford to have more than one. I should know, as I am a teenager, but I am lucky enough (I.E. somewhat wealthy parents) to one a PS3 and 360. However many fanboys seem to be adults who can afford more than one console. Why they spend time insulting the XBOX, PS3, Wii or PC instead of playing the great games that reside on each system is beyond me. I was wondering if anyone had any insight into the motives of fanboys.

Please don't begin posting about which console is your favorite and I don't need a flame shield

The way i see it.
Wii is for people who like more interactivity and nostalgia in their gaming

Xbox and PS3 are for people who enjoy the same thing over and over again with different makeup

PC is for good ol' fashion gaming goodness

Im trying to type this in the most serious way possible.......believe it.

I was more interested in the underlying motives of fanboys, not the attributes of the respective gaming systems but thanks for your input.

i choose my consoles for the games that come out for them.

i loved basicly everything on the gamecube,so i got a wii.
when playing dozens of fun ps2 games at a friends place i decided to buy that next.

it's just that easy for me.

Whether if it's a console flame war, or a "Console Discussion for People who Actually Use Their Brain", at the end of the day, they both boil down to opinions.

The Wii seems to have some good individual IP's whereas the 360 and PS3 seem pretty much the same, providing the users with high def blood fests or high speed thrills.

The PC is a good mix with some hardcore titles and the Mac is coming up in the gaming world again, dominating mobile gaming research and with Steam coming to OSX soon.

Everything has an upside.

Yay someone who realizes that GAMES are still GAMES, about fanboy's (side note: it's fanboys for video games and fangirls for shit like anime and twilight, although there are the whole role reversal shit and blah blah blah...) I think It's pointless because NOBODY is going to agree that their console is not as good as YOUR console, because they bought it they are gonna like it better then yours, that's why they didn't get yours!

well i own all 3 systems and enjoy my ps3 the most, but ive got into pc gaming latly when i got my laptop, mostly older RTS, Love DOW1. Dont really get fanboys/girls that attack other consoles, i guess iam a sony fanboy but i dont go around attack other consoles.

my motive is the sole reason that my friends all have xboxs and it's the only console i have, pc gaming not my thing(except Empire:Total War), so i feel the need to stick up for my xbox

I own both a 360 and a PS3. Used to own all 3. Also have a PC.

From my experience, it's one of these things that causes this raging against the other systems:

--You don't have enough money to buy another system, and are really ticked off that some game you really want to play is on the a system you don't own, so now you hate the system because they bought the exclusive rights to that game.

--You bought a system and it let you down somehow. Now you are convinced it is crap and will only love the other system.

--You are like this about everything. It can be cars, movies, video games, breeds of dog, brand of corn chip. Doesn't matter. It's a personality thing and you believe your opinion on what is best is the only valid opinion.

The third, is actually the type I run into the most when it comes to this attitude.

Personally, I like to game period. Doesn't matter what system it is on. A good game is a good game, no matter who purchased the rights to it. I actually think most gamers fall into this category. It's just that the 'fanboys' are louder.

I have a 360, but if I had the choice (see: money) I'd-a gotten a PS3 cause it's technically more capable. On the other hand, I have a 360, so I'm happy. Better than a PS2.

DOW1 is an amazing game my mom and I had so much fun playing it, and yes having a mother who plays videogames is awesome.

I honestly don't know why the console wars exist I think it's because some people think it's cool to hate on other consoles for the sake of belonging to a crowd. I personally don't give a shit about consoles I care about games, like if GOW3 was a PC exclusive I would go out of my way to get a good PC just for that game.
